h Events ????? ied Singers of Bakers ville, North Carolina will host tfee "Summer" Roan Mouitain Gospel Sing on Sunday, June 23 at the Cloudland High School Football Stadium in Roan Mountain, Tennessee. The all-day "open air" singing will begin at 10:00 a.m. and last all day. Bring lawn chairs, umbrella and blanket. In case of rain, singing will be moved indoors to the Cloudland High School Gym. Several well known quartets and trios are expected to perform. Concession stands will be provided by the Roan Mountain Citizens Gub. Mr. Ed Ball, well-known gospel DJ from WKYK Radio in Burnsville, N. C. will act as master of ceremonies. Small donations requested at gate. Children admitted free. U Saturday Night Singing The Union Valley Missionary Baptist Ohurch will hold their singing on June 22 at 7 p.m. The Rev. Harion Chandler invites everyone to attend. Walnut School Reunion The annual reunion of former students and teachers of Walnut School is planned for Saturday, Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. Organizors of the reunion have an nounced that they haven't got a mail ing list of former students and ask that local readers pass the word along to family and friends. Members of the Class of 1935 will hold a 50-year celebration during the reunion ceremonies. The Walnut School is located in Walnut. The school building now stan ding was originally built in the early 1930's after fire destroyed the old building. The school housed grades 1 through 12 until 1962, when the high school was consolidated with Mar shall School. The Aug. 10 reunion is open to anyone who ever attended Walnut School. Pfaff Receives Commission Charles A. Pfaff, Jr. of Mars Hill has received a commission as a se cond lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Pfaff is a 1985 graduate of Mars Hill College with a bachelor of science degree in biology. Pfaff, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pfaff of Holly HU1 Farm, Mars Hill, is expected to report for duty at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Va. in October. Two musicals and three comedies will run throughout the summer at the Owen Theatre on the campus of Mar* Hill College. SART is Western North Carolina's only professional repertory theatre The summer stock program opens Friday with the premiere of "Two by Two", a musical which starred Dan ny Kaye on Broadway. Featuring music by Richard Rogers, the play is based on the story of Noah. The SART production will be directed by Dr George Black, director of theatre at the University of Virginia. Black has directed plays in New York, Washington, D.C., New Orleans and on nationally- syndicated television. The play will star Dr. Earl Lein inger, chairman of the college's Divi sion of Humanities, as Noah. Lein inger will be taking directions from his wife, Cathy Adkins, who is the play's musical director. Leininger is a veteran of past SART productions, having played parts in"The Fan tasticks","Fiddler On The Roof" and"Camelot." The couple met while rehearsing "Fiddler. On The Roof", an earlier SART production in which Adkins served as musical director. Kay Shrider will make her SART debut as Noah's wife, Esther. Ken Gannon, Ben Starr Coates, Randy Noojin, Alicia Ross, Debbie Hull and Sarah Hall all return to the SART stage to complete the cast of "Two by Two." The opening presentation will be staged on June 21 through 23 and again from June 25 through July 2. Tickets may be reserved by calling the SART box office at 689-1239. Seats are $7 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Monday through Saturday performances wil begin at 8:15 p.m. nightly. A Sunday matinee performance is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Other SART productions during the current season include: "Affairs of State" to be presented July 5-7 and August 13-18; "Mass Appeal", play ing from July 10-16; "Fire On The Mountain" with a world premiere scheduled for July 19, will be presented July 19-21 and 23-28. "The Music of Jerome Kern" will be presented on July 31-August 4 and August 6-11. Adult season tickets at a 20 percent discount are also available. Contact the box office for more information. Mars Hill Dean's List Announced Robert T. Chapman, associate dean for acadamic affairs at Mars Hill Col lege, has announced that 243 students were named to the spring term Dean's List at the Baptist-related school. Forty-five Madison Countians were among those named to the honors list. Among thise named were Amy Huff Anderson and Bobby Randall Miller of Hot Springs. Fifteen Marshall residents were named to the list, in cluding: Lisa Ann Fisher, Thomas N. Gentry, Natalie Harrison Frost, San dra Griffin Rice, Brenda Gail Keller, Kathryn E. Fore, Dolores Buckner Wyatt, Lawrence K. Ray, Roxanna Whitt Capps, Thomas H. Murrah, Teresa L. Griffin, Robin L. Frisby, Faye B. Flynn, Donna Clouse Gar rison and Ryo Carroll McGinnis.
