Cleoves H. Roberts
Funeral services will be held this
afternoon at 2 p.m. for Cleoves Hugh
Roberts of 43 Roberts Hill Road. Mr
Roberts died Monday at the age of 65.
Services will be held in the chapel
of the Bwoman Funeral Home in
Marshall with the Rev. Edwin Fender
officiating. Burial will be conducted
in the Click Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Madison
County, he was the son of the late
Reuben J. and Margaret Benson
Roberts. He was a retired farmer.
He is survived by two brothers,
Doyle Roberts of Dayton, Ohio and
Lloyd Roberts of Hot Springs.
Avis Mawbey
Memorial services will be held in
New York for Avis Mawbey of
Chicago. III. who died Sunday in Mar
shall at the age of 70.
She is survived by a daughter.

sisters. Lillian Gearey. Nellie Coville
and Nellie Covile of New York ; and

town. Pa.. David Coville of Marshall.

Leta Shelton
Funeral services were held yester
day for Leta Haynie Shelton of Erwin,
Tenn.. who died Sunday at the age of
80
Services were held in the chapel of
the Bowman Funeral Home in Mar
shall with the Rev. Winfred Shelton
officiating. Burial was conducted in
the Sol Shelton Cemetery.
A native of Madison County, she
was a daughter of the late James and
Martha Jane Shelton Haynie and the
widow of Charles Shelton. who died in
1981 Mrs. Shelton was a member of
the Allegheny Presbyterian Church.
She made her home in Erwin for the
past five years.
She is survived by two sons. Win
fred Shelton of Flag Pond, Tenn. and
Lyle Shelton of Murray, Utah; a
brother. Donald Haynie of Marshall ;
and two grandchildren.
Stuart L. Ballard
Funeral services were held on
Tuesday for Stuart Lane Ballard of
Weaverville who died last Saturday
from a shotgun wound. He was 21
years old.
Services were held in the Locust
Grove Baptist Church with Revs.
H.L. Wilson and J.H. Smith of
ficiating. Burial was conducted in the
church cemetery.
He was a lifelong resident of Bun
combe County, and a carpenter by
trade.
He is survived by his parents,
Phillip Allen and Loretta Ball Ballard
of Weaverville; three sisters. Felecia
McClure, of Sharon, S.C., Vanessa
Carson, of York, SC., and Joretta
Ballard, of Weaverville; two
brothers. Allen and Chris Ballard,
both of York. SC.; the paternal
grandmother. Cora Ballard; and the
maternal grandmother. Muriel Ball,
both of Weaverville.
The family requests that all

Hazel B. Goodwin
Funeral services were held Tues
day for Hazel Buckner Goodwin of
Leicester who died March 23rd at the
age of 73.
Services were held in the chapel of
Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Charles Surrett officiating. Burial
was at the Dix Creek Chapel United
Methodist Church Cemetery.
A native of Haywood County, she
was the daughter of the late William
and Sally Brown, and the widow of
Ralph Buckner.
She is survived by her husband,
Chester Goodwin; a daughter, Betty
Gallimore of Leicester; three sons. (
Bobby, Jack, and Tommy Buckner of
Leicester; two stepsons, James ,
Chester Goodwin of Asheville and

Funeral services were held last
Friday for Gail B. Gosnell of Mar
shall who died last Tuesday in a
Greeneviile, Tenn. hospital at the age
of 69.
Services were held at the Overlook
Drive Free Will Baptist Church,
which he attended. The Revs. Garry
Gass, Hubert Metcalfe, and Jessie
Metcalfe officiated. Burial was con
ducted in the River Hill Cemetery in
Greeneviile.
A native of Greene County, Tenn..
he had lived in Madison County for
the past 36 years. He was a retired
farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Dalton
William Gosnell; three sons, Ronnie
Gosnell. of Marshall. Clayton and
Jimmy Gosnell, both of Greeneviile;
a brother, Erwin Gosnell of
Jonesboro. Tenn.; three sisters,
Welma Woods, of Lebanon, Mo.,
Maude Tweed and Kate Hutton, both

Funeral services were held last
Friday for Floyd English of Murphy
who died last Tuesday in a Knoxville,
Tenn. hospital at the age of 63.
Services were held in the chapel of
the Ivie Funeral Home in Murphy
with the Revs. Cliff Elliott and Ernie
Young officiating. Burial was cta-f
ducted in the Peachtree Memorial
Cemetery.
He was a native of Madison County
and the son of the late Herman and
Tennie Norton English. A retired
farmer, he was also an Army Air
Force veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Effie
Mcintosh English; two daughters,
Susie Mashburn and Naomi English;
three sons, Lawrence English, of
Hayesville, Raymond and Billy
English, of Dalton, Ga.; a sister,
Estella Meade of Hickory; a brother.
