WII.I.IAM BRIAN ROBERTS ...the former Donna Gail llaney Many Don't Realize WIC Program Can Offer Assistance Many Madison County women with young children may be eligible for assistance through the federal Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children, bet ter known as the WIC program. The following information provided by the Madison County Dept. of Social Services should answer many ques tions regarding the program. Q.: Even though my husband works, we are still having trouble keeping food on our table. My neighbor says that we may be eligible for the WIC program. What is the program? A: The WIC program is a federal assistance program administered by the state of North Carolina through county social service agencies The program is designed to help in sure that pregnant, breastfeeding or post partum women and their infants and children under five receive some of the basics in nutrition. The WIC program provides coupons for milk, cheese, cereals, fruit juices, eggs and dried beans for women and young children. Infants can receive for mula, cereals and fruit juices through the program. The foods are provided at no charge to all who qualify. Eligibility for the program is governed by income guidelines, but the eligibility levels are higher than those used for the food stamp pro gram. Many working families with children are eligible for assistance and income is just one of the criteria for participation. Women and children suffering from low iron in the blood are also eligible, as are those who are either under or overweight. The WIC program also provides nutrition counseling from trained nutritionists. The Rev. Howard Rogers presided at the ser vice. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Haney of Weaverville. The bridegroom is the son of Bill Roberts of Etowah and Pat Roberts of Fletcher. Jennifer Young and Mavis Cole provided music during the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The bride's sister, Teresa Haney, served as the maid of honor. Hazel Haney, sister-in-law of the bride, served as the matron of honor. Both attendants wore mauve colored silk gowns and caried matching flowers. The bride's sister, Lisa Haney of Weaverville, served as a bridesmaid, along with Lisa Howe and Ann Roberts of Etowah and Norma Cowan of Weaverville. The bridegroom's father served as the best man. Richie Roberts, the bridegroom's brother, served as an usher along with Ricky Haney, David Stokley, Mike McGee and Darrin Allman Carmen Banks was the flower girl and Charlie Wheeler served as the ringbearer. * . She is I employed by Conrad Industries in I Weaverville. The bridegroom is a 1978 graduate of West Henderson H.S. and is employed by the Dan Ducote Con struction Co. in Etowah. Her fingertip veil of silk illusion was at tached to a Camelot headpiece and she carried a bouquet of silk roses and daisies. Kathy Bailey of Asheville was the maid of honor. The bride's sister, Tabatha Ballew of Asheville, served as the bridesmaid. Both attendants wore wine colored gowns with ruffled necklines and bow trim and carried bouquets of pink, white and burgundy silk flowers. Rick Conard served as the best man. The bridegroom's brother, George Ballew of Asheville, served as an usher along with the bride's brother, Kenny Phillips of Mars Hill. The bridegroom's cousin, Katrina Crowell of Asheville, served as the flower girl.
