The bride is the daughter of Danny
Lee Metcalf and Gail Elaine Metcalf
of Mars Hill.
The groom is the son of the Rev.
Kermit Ball and Mary Lee Ball, also
of Mars Hill.
The bride wore a full-length formal
wedding gown, with a long train trim
med in lace. She carried a pink and
white bouquet with streamers.
The bride is a 1906 graduate of
Madison High School.
The groom is a 1960 graduate of
Madison High and is currently
employed with Sluder's Food Mart of
Mars Hill.
THE LAUREL GIRLS SOFTBALL team has
repeated as county champions following
another undefeated season. The team will
compete this week in the state softball cham
pionships in Durham. Team members in

Melanie Chapman Named
As Outstanding Younsr Woman
The Outstanding Young Women of
American has announced that
Melanie Chapman, head nurse with
the medical/surgical intensive care
unit of the North Carolina Baptist
Hospital in Wiston/Salem, and
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Chapman of Mars Hill, has been nam
ed to the 1986 edition of that organiza
tion.
Chapman is a graduate of Mars Hill
High School and Mars Hill College
where she earned a bachelor's degree
in home economics and education in
1976. She earned an Associate of Ap
plied Science degree in nursing from
Asheville-Buncombe Technical Col
lege in 1978, and began working in the
pediatrics division of N. C. Baptist
Hospital the same year. She has serv
ed as staff nurse with the neuro
surgical intensive care unit and the
cardio-thoractic intensive care unit
before being named head nurse of
medical/surgical unit in 1985.
Chapman is secretary of the
American Association of Critical
Care Nurses and a member of the
Carolina-Virginia Society of Critical
Care Nurses.
Two Take Part In Korean Exercises
U.S. Navy Seaman David Boynton
of Weaverville and Fireman Recruit
William D. Cunningham of Marshall
recently took part in Team Spirit '86,
a month-long exercise involving some
20,000 troops from the U.S. and
Republic of South Korea.
Both men are currently stationed
aboard the aircraft carrier USS Mid
way, homeported in Yokosuka,
Japan.
Exercise Team Spirit is the largest
joint exercise conducted in the free
world, involving 28 U.S. ships, 218
Navy and Marine Corps aircraft and
28,000 U.S. servicemen. Upon comple- j
tion of the exercise, their ship made a
port call in Sasebo, Japan.
A 1965 graduate of North Buncombe
H.S., Boynton joined the navy last
summer following graduation.
Cunningham is a 1983 graduate of
Madison H.S, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Woody Cunningham of Marshall. He
also joined the Navy last summer.
A-B Tech Officials Ready
To Build Madison Campus

make their home in Simpsonville,

Planning to take a fishing trip
soon? Be sure to have a valid license
all 1985-86 hunting and fishing
licenses expired June 30.
The license year runs from July 1 to
June 30. New licenses for 1986-87 are
now available from almost 1,000
license agents located across the
state.
However, if you'd like to save a few
dollars over the long run, and want to
help wildlife in the bargain, invest in
one of the lifetime hunting and fishing
licenses offered by the N.C, Wildlife
Resources Commission.
Funds from the sale of lifetime
licenses, along with lifetime subscrip
tions to "Wildlife in North Carolina"
magazine, are placed in the N.C.
Wildlife Endowment Fund. This fund
will help support wildlife conserva
tion for future generations.
The following lifetime licenses are
available:
Lifetime sportsman's licenses for
adults, youths and infants include all
hunting, hook-and-line Fishing, and
bow fishing priveledges. Trapping
priveledges are not included. This
license is available to non-residents.
Lifetime hunting licenses
(residents only) include only basic
lunting priveledges. All special use
licenses such as primitive weapons,
