Brown , Edwards United Melinda Regine Brown and Ricky Lester Edwards of Wea verville were united in marriage Sunday at 12:15 p.m. in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Alexander. The Rev. James Lee conducted the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Johnny and Linda Brown of Wea verville. The groom is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Gene Edwards of Wea ver ville Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a long empire gown of silk organza with a V-neckline trimm ed with crystal pleating and bodice of Chantilly lace. A cascading garland of matching lace and crystal pleating accented the skirt with lace border ing the hemline that fell to a chapel train. She wore a finger tip veil of silk illusion edged in Chantilly lace roses attached to a camelot cap of lace and pearls. Matron of honor was Tracy Brown, sister of the bride, of Wea verville. Best man was Darrell Sprinkle of Leciester. A reception was held in the fellowship hall of the church. The bride is a graduate of North Buncombe High School and is employed by MicroSwitch of Mars Hill and Ivey's of Asheville. The bridegroom is a graduate of North Buncombe High School and is employed by Western Steer of Asheville. He will enter the U.S. Air Force in April. . Blazers Celebrate 60th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blazer of 80 Dogwood Drive, Marshall, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniver sary Friday with their family. Mrs. Blazer is the former Do vie Ball. They have four children, Irene Clark, R. J. Blazer, Ruth Ammons and Lucille Blazer, all of Marshall. One daughter, Sue Mae Rice, is deceased. They have one grandchild and one great-grandchild. Mrs. Ricky L. Edwards . . the former Melinda Brown Crime Victim Workshop To Be Held Saturday "The Experience of Being a Victim of Crime" is the title and focus of a workship being sponsored by the Criminal Justice Task Force of the Episcopal Diocese on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at All Soul's Parish in Asheville. The workship will include the shar ing of stories of victims of crime, the articulation of needs for ministry by crime victims and their families, and the definition of specific responses that individuals and parishes might make. Speakers leading the workshop in clude Betty and Ross Parks, parents whose lives were changed per manently 10 years ago by the murder of their daughter; Michelle Rippon, attorney and former member of the Governor's Crime Commission; Lynn Jett Minnick, founder of People Assisting Victims and the North Carolina Victim Assistance Network and mother of a 28-year old pregnant homicide victim; and, Jan Phillips and Lis Wails of the Rape Crisis Center of Buncombe County. Smith Joins Management earn At Weaverville Store Carolina Tire Co. recently announc ed that Renee Smith will join the management team at the company's Weaverville store. Smith graduated from the com pany's trainee management program in credit and sales at the parent com pany. Brad Ragan, Inc., training facility in Salisbury. "We're proud to have Renee on board," said Nancy Herron, manager of the Weaverville Carolina Tire Co. story. "She's an outgoing type person who's well qualified for the job." Carolina Tire Co. Is a retail distribution center with a broad line of new Una, home entertainment pro ducts and lawn and garden equip ment. The company also provides automotive services such as brake adjustments, wheel alignments and engine tune-ups. According to Herron, Smith will be assisting the credit manager. Renee Smith . . . new to Wea verville Group Encourages Senior Volunteers The Retired Senior Volunteer Pro gram supports and encourages volunteerism among persons aged 60 or older. There is no cost for membership in this national organization and it is open to any retiree who volunteers. Benefits available include accident and liability insurance coverage dur ing volunteer hours and mileage reimbursement at 20 cents per mile. Persons who are already involved in volunteer work may join RSVP and receive benefits without changing their current volunteer position. Organizations which utilize volunteers and would like them to benefit from RSVP may enroll their volunteer staff. Retired seniors who are not cur rently volunteering may take advan tage of other services offered by RSVP. The program is funded through AC TION, the federal funding source for domestic volunteers serving non profit organizations in the four county area. Amnions Jr. of Mars Hill have announced the engagement of their daughter, Rachel Lee Ammons, to Richard Lee Hoffman Jr. of Bethesda, Md., son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard L. Hoffman of Mars Hill. The bride elect is enrolled in the physicians assistant program at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston Salem. The bridegroom elect is a student in the Masters program in international development at American University in Washington, D.C., and is co-owner of Clean and Polish, a window washing service in Washington.
