Marshall Board Reschedules Meeting
The Marshall Board of Aldermen has postponed its meeting
of April 13 and rescheduled it to Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Mar
shall Town Hall.
Weaverville Postpones Meeting
The Weaverville Town Council has rescheduled its monthly
meeting from Monday to 7 p.m. April 27 .
Walk-a-thon To Be Held
A joint Walk-a-Thon will be held for victims of multiple
sclorosis and leukemia on April 25 from 10 a.m. until noon in
downtown Marshall. For more information contact Bea
Banks.
Community Club To Meet
The Walnut Creek Community Development Club will meet
Monday night at 7:30 in the Enon Baptist Church fellowship
hall. All members are urged to attend.
Laurel Firemen Sponsor Pig Roast
The Laurel Volunteer Fire Department will have their an
nual spring pig roast on April 26 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at
the fireball on N.C. 212. Tickets will be |3. Menu will include
pork, cole slaw, pinto beans, bread, dessert, drinks and coffee.
Alzheimer Group To Meet
The Madison County Alzheimer's Disease and other related
diseases Support Group will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the
Marshall Senior Citizen Center.
Bake Sale Set
The Madison County Extension Homemakers will sponsor a
bake sale today in front of Ingles at Mars Hill beginning at 1
p.m. and in front of Ingles at Marshall on Friday beginning at
11 a.m.
Coon Hunters To Host Sectional
The Western North Carolina Coon Hunters Association will
host the North Carolina Plott Sectional on April 25 at the Enka
Union Hall on Sardus Road, Asheville beginning at 2 p.m. For

Marshall Merchants To Meet
The Marshall Merchants' Association will meet at 7:30 p.m .
today (Thursday) in Madison County Library to discuss the
formation of a countywide chamber of commerce. The
meeting is open to all area residents.
EMC Annual Meeting Saturday
The annual meeting of the members of French Broad Elec
tric Membership Corporation will be held Saturday at Moore
Auditorium in Mars Hill. Registration will begin at noon and
continue until 1:30 p.m. The Primitive Quartet will sing atl:30
p.m. and the business session will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Hot Springs Students Sought
All Hot Springs students who attended Hot Springs High
School between 1929-1974 should contact Marie Lawson at
622-7262 or Ruth Smith at 622-7237 for information concerning
the 1987 homecoming.
Herb Workshop Planned
In Our Own Way will sponsor a series of herb workshops
April 23-25 in Marshall, Greater Ivy and Spring Creek. A $5 fee
will cover regisration, seeds and printed materials. Call the In

Cheese, Butter Distribution Set
U.S. Department of Agricultural
cheese and butter commodities will
be distributed next Wednesday and,
Thursday at the main office of the
Department of Social Services in
Marshall.
Last names beginning with A-L will
be able to pick up commodities on
Wednesday, April 22, between the
hours of noon and 4 p.m.
Those with last names beginning
with M-Z will be able to pick up com
modities on Thursday, April 23, bet
ween noon and 4 p.m.
Pood Stamp recipients will receive
authorization cards from Raleigh as
with previous distributions. The
cards must be brought to the distribu
tion center to receive commodities.
Some income/eligible households
were pre-certified in October and
those households will need to bring
their blue cards in order to receive
commodities.
Households that don't receive food
stamps or are not pre-certified will be
able to make application the date of
distribution that corresponds to the
last name of the head of the
household.
This application will be made at the
food stamp office. After applying, the
applicant will be able to receive com
modities at the main office.
Man Guilty Of Christmas Tree Theft
A Madison County man was con
victed recently of the felonious
larceny of $3,500 worth of Christmas
trees in November.
A jury returned the guilty verdict
against Keith Rathbone during a ses
sion of Madison County Superior
Court last month.
Superior Court Judge Kenneth A.
Griffin gave Rathhone a three-year
suspended sentence, placed him on
supervised probation for two years
and ordered him to pay a $500 fine
and $3,500 in restitution.
In other court action , an
assault charge against Prances G.
Gentry was dismissed by the District
Attorney's Office after the state's
witness refused to testify.
