French Broad Baptists Dedicate New Center A dream came true oa Sunday, ?t April as, when the Preach Broad Bap tist Association dedicated its new \ Baptist Center, the fruition of more ? than SO years of searching, planning ?i and praying for the 48 churches in the association. A dedication service for the building, which is located between . Mars Hill and Marshall on N.C. SIS, at S p.m. April SS. f Many of those responsible for the building had a part in the program, while the main speaker was the Rev. Bobby Stafford, director of Aasocia tional Development from the Baptist State Convention in Raleigh. An open house followed the service. During the afternoon, Mrs. Locke Robinson was honored with the unveiling of her portrait painted by her son, artist Grove Robinson, who is head of Union University's art department in Jackson, Tenn. The painting will hang in the larfe conference room of the building. Mrs. Robison had been director at the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) for the French Broad Association for more than 40 years. She served as an assistant to Mrs. Robert Lee Moore and was named director in 1948 when Mrs. Moore retired. The new Baptist Center is a two story brick facade structure contain ing a total of 4,860 square feet. On the first floor is a reception area, secretary's office, work room, the director of mission's office, a large conference room, a class room and restrooms. The bottom floor contains a fellowship hall with a complete kit chen which may also be used for a large conference room, untility rooms, the heating system and rest rooms. The building is the realization of a dream that began two decades ago. A serious movement to find land for the project began in the late 1960s when the Rev. E.J. Jenkins was director of missions. A one-acre parcel of land was found and purchas ed in 1963. Groundbreaking ceremonies werp held July 1964 when the Rev. Dale Fisher was director of missions. The building was occupied just after the new year by the current director of missions, the Rev. Joe Edwards. All 48 churches in the association Projects On Review The Education of the Handicapped Act, Title VI, Part B Project and the ECIA Chapter I Project for handicap ped public school students is available for public review in the of fice of the Madison County Board of Education in Marshall. These projects provide additional funds based on enrollment of han dicapped students as authorized by the U.S. Congress in Public Law 94-142. The New French Bread Baptist Center, lo cated en N.C. 213 between Mar* Hill and Marshall, was officially dedicated dariag spe cial ceremonies on April IS. contributed to the cost of constructing the building, and the women of the association joined by publishing a cookbook which currently has sold nearly 400 copies. K Individuals and church groups have donated money, a television set and VCR for use in the classes, and enough funds were given to purchase dishes, glasses and silverware to serve 100 people.
