Ruby Carter Wailin, 56, of Raute 3,
Sprinkles Creek Road, Mart Hill,
died Friday in an Asheville hospital
A Henderson County native, she
had lived in Madison County for the
past 54 years. She was a retired
teacher from Mars Hill Elementary
School. She attended Montreat
Anderson College and graduated
from Bast Tennessee State Universi
ty. She was awarded Teacher of the
Year in 1172 and IMS. She was a
member of NEA, NCAE, National
Beta Club and North Carolina Sym
phony. She served as president of
Madison County Local Unit of NCAE
and was active in PTA She was the
daughter of Georgia Mullinax Carter
of Mars Hill and the late Clarence
Carter. She was the wife of Madison
County Tax Collector Harold Wailin.
Surviving, in addition to her mother
and her husband, are a son, Greg
Wailin of Mars Hill; and, two
brothers, Jimmy and Edward Carter
of Mars Hill
Services were held Sunday in
California Creek Baptist Church, of
which she was a member. The Revs.
Han-el Wood and Page Lee officiated.
Burial was in Mars Hill Cemetery.
Samuel Randolph Sr.
Samuel Ivan Randolph Sr., 69, of
133 S. Main St., Mars Hill, died Sun
day in an Ashevtlle hospital
. A Yancey County native, he had liv
ed in Mara Hill for 44 years. He was
retired from the inspection depart
ment of Square D. His parents were
the late Issac and Sallie King Ran
dolph.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Ed
wards Randolph; a daughter, Rebec
ca Smith of Asheville; two sons, Gor
don and Ivan Randolph of Mara Hill;
two sisters, Madge King of Burns ville
and Inez Andrews of Lees burg, Ala. ;
a brother, Billy Randolph of Mara
Hill; and, six grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday in
Mars Hill Baptist Church, of which he
was a member. The Revs. Sue Fit
zgerald, Jerry Jarrell and H.L.
Wilson officiated. Burial was in Mars
Hill Cemetery.
Anne Mc Peters
Anne Bradley McPeters, 55, of
Charlotte, formerly of Mars Hill, died
April 20 in a Charlotte hospital.
A Henderson County native, she
had lived in Charlotte for the past five
years. She was a daughter of the late
Grady and Minnie Bradley and was a
member of Highlands Baptist
Church.
Surviving are her husband, the
Rev. William E. McPeters; a son,
William E. McPeters of Robbinsville;

Bennie Roberts
Bennie Messer Roberts, 98, of
Jackson Street, Hot Springs, died
April 20 at her residence.
A lifelong resident of Madison
County, she was a daughter of the late
Joe and Nannie Davis Messer and
was the wife of James G. Robinson,
who died in 1951.
Surviving are a son, Burnett
Roberts of Forest City; three
daughters. Ruby Moore of Black
Mountain, Vania Brooks of Charlotte
and Pearl Roberts of Hot Springs; a

Sets Revival
Marshall First Baptist Church will
hold revival services beginning Sun
day and lasting through Wednesday.
The featured speaker will be Randy
Kilby, director of admissions and
enrollment at Gardner-Webb Collge
in Boiling Springs.
The revival will include special
music and testimonies. A nursery will
be provided.
The revival will begin Sunday at U
t.m. and continue each evening at 7
j.m. through Wednesday.

Paul V. Rice, 56, of 96 Sheppard
Branch Road, Weaverville, died April
20 in an Asheville hospital.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe
County, he retired as warehouse
manager from Lowe's. He was an Ar
my veteran of the Korean War and
was a member of Mount Bethel Free
Will Baptist Church. He was a son of
the late Hubert C. and Ada Carver
Rice.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Pike
Rice; two daughters, Sheila R. Pike
and Kathy R. Massey of Weaverville;
a son, Danny H. Rice of Weaverville;
two sisters, Wanda R. Greene of
Atlanta, Ga., and Iva R. Kasal of
Houston, Texas; a brother, Tommy
Rice of Unicoi, Tenn.; and, three
grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday in
Marantha Baptist Church, which he
attended. The Revs. Larry Edwards
and Jay Blankenship officiated.
Burial was in Mount Bethel
Cemetery.

Amanda Chandler Griffin, 92, of 206
Lower Walnut Creek Road, Marshall,
died Friday at her home.
A lifelong resident of Madison
County, she was a daughter of the late
John and Margaret Rice Chandler
and wife of Jeter Griffin, who died in
1966. She was a member of Davis
Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Irma
Brazil of the home and Ellen Hensley
of Marshall; two sons, Paige Griffin
of Martinsville, Va., and Clyde Grif
fin of Marshall; three half sisters,
Elsie Bullman, Dorothy Bullman and
Pansy Randall, all of Marshall ; a half
brother, Everett Chandler of Mars
Hill; six grandchildren; and, seven
great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday in the
chapel of Bowman Funeral Home.
The Revs. Lloyd Ponder and Jay
Griffin officiated. Burial was in Mar

day at her residence.
A Buncombe County native, she
was a member of Paint Fork Mis
sionary Baptist Church. She was a
daughter of the late William B. and
Hattie Russell Anderson.
Surviving are three sisters, Annie
Louise Hicks and Mary Elizabeth
Webb of Bernards ville and Alice
Anderson of Indiana; and, a brother,
Arville Anderson of Barnardsville.
Services were held Sunday in the
chapel of West Funeral Home. The
Rev. Joe Honeycutt officiated. Burial
was in West Memorial Park.
Alvin Green
Alvin Green, 61, of 351 Bull Creek
Road, Marshall, died Saturday at his
home.
A Madison County native, he was a
retired farmer. He was a son of the
late McKinley and Mary Emiline
Wise Green.
He is survived by a son, James
Green of the home; the stepmother,
Lena Wilds Green of Marshall; four
sisters, Esther Fisher, Sadie Coffey
and Irene Fox of Asheville and
Christine Coffey of Waynesville; and,
three brothers, Clenard Green of
Weaverville and Walter and M.T.
Green of Marshall.
Services were held Tuesday in
Gabriels Creek Baptist Church, of
which he was a member. The Revs.
Keith Edwards and Orlando Hawkins
officiated. Burial was in the church
cemetery.

Kenneth Trantham of Waynesville
died Saturday at his residence.
A Haywood County native, he was a
son of Lillian Ledford Trantham of
Clyde and the late Horace Trantham.
He was a member of Belmont Baptist
Church.
Surviving, in addition to the
mother, are his wife, Bonnie Ledbet
ter Trantham; a daughter, Stephanie
Michel) Shuler of Waynesville; a son,
Kenneth Shuler of Waynesville; a
stepson, Michael Ray Shuler of Fort
Bragg; seven sisters, Peggy Best of
Clyde, Lorene Kirkpatrick and

A lifelong resident of Madison
County, he was a son of the late
Charlie Wayne and Julia Boone Shook
and was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Johnnie
Whitt Shook; a son, Danny Lee Shook
of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters,
Geneva Kinnick of Telford, Tenn.,
and Irene Honeycutt of Mars Hill;
and, two brothers, Vance Shook of
Brevard and Charles Shook Jr. of
Mars Hill.
Services were held Monday in Ivy
Hill Baptist Church, of which he was
a member. The Revs. Bob Ballard,

Cemetery.
Carl Garrison
Carl B. Garrison, 72, of 82 Reems
Creek Road, Weaverville, died Satur
day at his home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe
County, he was a retired carpenter
and an Army veteran of World War
II. He was a son of the late J. Ed and
Jannie Black Garrison and husband
of Pansy Emory Garrison, who died
in 1867.
Surviving are two sisters, Mildred
G. Roberts of Weaverville and Awan
da Clark of Hickory; and, a brother.
