Garland Brown Garland Winston Brown, SB, of Marshall, died May 19 in an Ashevilie hospital. A lifelong resident of Madison County, he was a son of the late Ervin and Iona Hensley Brown. He was an Army veteran of World War U and a member of American Legion Post No. 317 and the Tri -County Coon and Bear Hunters Association. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Marler Brown; a daughter, Patricia Jo Black well of Weaverville; two brothers, Walter and Eunie Brown of Marshall ; two sisters, Martha Wright of Candler and Lillie Tweed of Mar shall; two grandchildren; and, two great-grandchildren . Services were held Thursday in the chapel of Bowman Funeral Home. The Revs. Horace Honeycutt and Joe Honeycutt officiated. Burial was in Bowman Rector Cemetery. Raleigh Slagle Raleigh Slagle, 61, of Ashevilie, formerly of Mars Hill, died May 31 at his home. A Madison County native, he had lived in Ashevilie for 13 years. He was a carpenter with Ashevilie City School system and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a son of the late Lewis and Elsie Cody Slagle. Surviving are his wife, Jessie English Slagle; two daughters, San dra Glisson of Mars Hill and Susan Payne of Ashevilie; two sons, Danny Ray Slagle of Swannanoa and Amy Slagle of Ashevilie; two sisters, Mae Effler of Greeneville, Tenn., and Afry Nortion of Marshall, five brotjMg Huey Slagle of Florida, CarmeJ SJagie of Greeneville, Ophard Slagle of Appomattox, Va., and Lokie and Von Slagle of Mars 'Hill; six grand children; and, a great-grandchild Memorial services were held Wednesday at Capps Funeral Home. Donald D. Jones and the Rev. E.T. Ehresman officiated. Graveside rites were held Thursday in Smithlawn Cemetery in Mars Hill. Rev. Virgil Bradburn The Rev. Virgil W. Bradburn, 75, of Highway 10, Marion, died May 31 at his residence. A native of Marshall, he was a son of the late Charles C. and Sarah Dockery Bradburn. He retired as pastor of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Catawba Falls Baptist Church and Catawba Heights Baptist Church and retired after SO years of employment with Cross Cotton Mills. He was the first eagle scout in McDowell County and received a na tional Scouting gold card award for 50 years of service to the Boy Scouts of America. Surviving are his wife, Elma Oliver Bradburn; a son, V. Wayne Bradburn Jr. of Marion; two daughters, Susan Hemphill of Macon, Ga., and Marianne Bradburn of Greensboro; two sisters, Belzie Cuthbertson and Emma Hester of Marion; six grand children; and, two great grandchildren. James Tweed James Franc i* Tweed, M, of 35 Lin da Vista Drive, Asheviiie, died Tues day in an Asheviiie hospital. A Madison County native, he had lived most of his life in Buncombe County. He was the son of the late Marshall Nathan and Nancy Green Tweed. Surviving are two sons, Clyde Tweed of Asheviiie and Robert Tweed of Candler; six daughters, Mary Prances Worley of Lexington and Margaret Rebecca Calloway, Betty Jean Bradley, Helen Louise Knapp, Eula Mae Deitz and Sarah Christine Honeycutt, all of Asheviiie; 31 grand children; and, 37 great grandchildren. Services were held Friday in Asheviiie Full Gospel Tabernacle. The Revs. Perry Crane and Boyd Mc Claren officiated. Burial was in Pisgah United Methodist Church cemetery in Rutherfordton. w? J Nina Burris Nina Alice Burris, 81, of 80 Brickyard Road, Asheville, died May 31. A Madison County native, she was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. Her parents were the late William and Belinda Odell Hunter. Surviving are her husband, Aaron E. Burris; two daughters, Helen Dockery of Weaverville and Bernice Houston of Asheville; two sons, Ken neth and Ronnie Burris of Asheville; 26 grandchildren; and, 18 great grandchildren. Selwyn Eure Selwyn McDevitt Eure, 79, of Weaverville, died June 1 in an Asheville hospital. A Madison County native, she had lived in Buncombe County for the past 12 years. She was a daughter of the late N.B. and Alice Hurt McDevitt -end was the wife of Stephen Eure Jr., who died in 1918. She fas * retired schoolteacher from Malison County schools and was a member of Mar shall First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Carton-Newman College and did graduate work at UNC Chapel Hill. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. J.O. Wells Sr. of Brevard and Atlanta, Ga.; and, two brothers, John W. McDevitt of Durham and Wendell W. McDevitt of Weaverville. A native of Lexington, Ky., she had lived in Fort Lauderdale before mov ing to Buncombe County Ave years ago. Surviving are her mother, Mary Ross Fayne of the home; and, three sisters, Connie Dawson and Lindy Embick of Fort Lauderdale and Marlene Casteel of Weavervilie. Burial David Honeycutt David Allison Honeycutt, M, of Fayetteville, formerly of Mara Hill, died Thursday in a Fayetteville hospital. A Madison County native, he retired from the U.S. Army and was formeiy employed with the Civil Ser vice. Surviving are his wife, Joanna Honeycutt; a son, Ronald J. Honeycutt of Rocky Mount; a daughter, Janette Brown of Fayet teville; three brothers, Arthur, Jobie and Kyle Honeycutt, all of Mars Hill ; six sisters.
