Weaverville Commissioners To Meet The Board of Commissioners for the Town of Weaverville will hold a special meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The meeting will begin with an closed session on per sonnel and will be followed at 7 p.m. with a discussion on the results of the water service study which McGill and Associates are completing. Lion's Club Fireworks The Hot Springs Lion Clubs will have fireworks on Labor Day, Sept. 5, if weather permits. Rice Charlie Burton Rice, 95, of Mara Hill died Aug. 27 in a Madison County health care center. A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Dolph and Callie Banks Rice and the husband to the late Cora Chandler Rice. He is survived by two daughters, Rose Franklin of Weaverville and Mary Ruth Higgins of Landis; two sons, Harvey L. Rice of Winston Salem and Arnold W. Rice of King. A brother, Hassell Rice of Mars Hill ; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services were held Monday in the Bethel Baptist Church of which he was the oldest member and deacon. The Revs. Troy Rogers and Donald GaspersoQ officiated. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. Mary S. Marshbanks Mary Sams Marshbanks, 87, of Weaverville died Aug. 26 in her home. A Buncombe County resident for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Lee and Hattie McElroy Sams and the wife of the late Harvey Marshbanks. She is survived by: two daughters, Doris M. Eller and Irene M. Waddell of Weaverville; a son, Allen Mar shbanks of Weaverville; a brother Robert L. Sams of Weaverville; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were held Monday in the Forks of Ivy Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Revs. Paul Morgan, E.S. Haven and Marcia Lee Hungunine of Bars tow, Calif. ; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services were held Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Tiernan of ficiated Fred Lovin Fred Lovin, 69, of Erie, Pa., died Aug. 23. A native of Madison County, he was a son of Cora Lovin of Ashe vi lie and the late Van Lovin. He is survived by wife, Emma Lovin ; three sons, John, Roy and Ed die Lovin of Erie; three daughters, Linda, Louise and Marsha Lovin of Erie ; two brothers, George and Clyde Lovin of Mars Hill ; four sisters, Pearl Barnes of Hendersonville, OUie Hensley of Burnsville, Minnie Ashbury of Knoxville, Tenn., and Pansy Bailey of Candler; and eight grandchildren. Services were held Saturday in the chapel of Capps Funeral Home. The Rev. Howard Ogle officiated. Burial was in the Penley Cemetery. Mattie L. Cantrell Mattie Letterman Cantrell, 95, of Marshall, died Aug. 24. A native of Greenville, Tenn., she had lived in Madison County most of her life. She was a member of the White Rock Presbyterian Church. She was the wife of the late Auther E. Cantrell, who died in 1971. She is survived by three daughters, Pearl Roberts of Bryson City, Ruth Stockton of Farmville, Va? and Helen Bhelton of Weaverville; nine grand children, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
