Mr. and Mrs. David Metcalf of
Mars Hill announce the engagement
of their daughter, Tracy Michelle, to
Eric Gerard Pressley, son of Homer
Pressley of Biltmore and Susan
Pre?sley of West Asheville.
An Oct. 7 wedding is planned at the
California Creek Baptist Church.
Messer Engaged
Mr. and Mrs. David K. Messer an
nounced the engagement of their
daughter, Tena Wetona, to
Christopher L. Webb, the son of Mrs.
Jobbie Ladwer. The bride-eiect is a
graduate of Madison High School,
and is employed by Madison Home
Care. The groom-elect is a graduate
of North Buncombe High School and
is employed by WWNC Radio.

Dr. Reese Sleen Honored At Convention

of General Dentistry during its an

Dr. Reese Steen was named to the
honor after completing a program
that included qualifying first as a
Fellow by passing 900 continuing
education credits .yithin s 10-year
pwtad and passing a compreh? aive
examination, then completing an ad
ditinal 600 credit*, m?t of which
were under the supervMoaif an in
structor.
Steen studied the Keyes techniques
for diagnosing and treaNag gum
disease* under the man who
developed the techniques.
Steen received undergraduate and
graduate training at UNC - Chapel
Hill. '?
Stem was the first in his textile mill
family to earn a college degree and
credits a high school teacher with
steering him to the health profession
He said he had a poor image of den
tistry until exptosed to the dental
school as a patient.
"I realized that dentists could be
sensitive, compassionate people," he
said.
Steen moved to Madison County
with his wife, Lynp Oliver, in 1872
with the intention of returning to
graduate school within a couple
years.
Instead, he remained in the county,
first with the Hot Springs Health Pro
gram and later on his own own in
Mars Hill.
Steen is a member of the Madison
County Board of Commissioners.
