F. KIRKPATRICK. The announcement of C. F. Kirk patrick for Register of Deeds will please his Kr'"t host of friends. They have prevailed upon him to make the race to succeed himself for a third term. His record cannot be surpassed it is said by those in a position to know. Several prominent lawyers point out hat the office of Hejrister of Deeds under the supervision of Mr. Kirkpatrick is unusually efficient. That in the registration of legal papers and abstract of deeds that they have never known of even a minor error. The tax collectors have also said that the audidtors of account of Mr. Kirkpatrick's books tallied exactly with theirs. This ia an unusual rec ord considering that he had a shorter time in which to post his books had the auditors spent several months auditing the county bookkeeping sys tem and accounts. Mr. Kirkpatrick needs no assis tance from the writer's pen because, he has made such a brilliant record and this with his unusual -popularity in. !i ehement ' in- r:h . Tin-. d of ;. Siate W. The women who have made this pos sible are heartily thanked by the book committee as well a by hoys and girls who are reading Mark Twuin, Louisa M. Alcott, etc., in per fect condition. If the time ever comes when this committee is apportioned a monthly sum with which to buy new books, the juvenile section will not be for gotten for the children's spoken ap preciation of their privileges is the most encouraging aspect of the Li bray situation in Waynesvilie today. One very encouraging fact in regard to the Library is that last year the 1 circulation was 5504 volumes, the 1 present one showing an increase of 922. This shows at least that the choice of books has not been un popular. I This committee has not been given funds to purchase any books aincc September and has, consequently, been much embarrassed by its f ail- ' ure to meet the demands of the Li brary's patrons. An organized ef fort is to be made in the near future to create a permanent New Book Fund through an appeal to the va- ' rious clubs, societies, etc., of this town, asking each to incorporate this ever-present need in ita budget It would not be fitting to close this report without giving public recog nition to the timely and systematic help rendered this committee by Misses Martha Mock and Blanche Howell and Ross Wilcox during the annual re-cataloguing.
