Truck, oats and grass on high land will be a little short, but the show ers for the last two or three weeks has made a decided improvement and the prospect is there will be an aver age yield. Garden vegetables are n:it very encouraging in some gardens. The cut worms played havoc in the early part of the season, te cab bage worm and bean beetle has made there appearance in some sections, jbut so far have not damaged the crop very extensively. The potato crop promises to be very good with the j present outlook, with a reasonably J good fruit crop thrown in, the farm ers of the community can live at home J and not go to town or some western state for their flour and other sup plies. Dr. P. A. Roberts of Haywood In stitute filled the pulpit at the bap tist church Sunday in the absence of the pastor and preached a very in teresting and instructive sermon on seeking. Arkley Rider, a highly respected young man, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rider, after intense suffering from pneumonia, heart trouble And other ailments, passed away at his home at one o'clock A. M. July 1st, in his twenty-third year. He was a model young man, dutiful and obendient to his parents, truthful, honest, upright in his dealings with his fell iv man. His pleasing personality, cheerful disposition had won for him high esteem and admiration with all whom he came in contact with. The funeral services were conducted at the home , by Rev. William Pruoit, witnessed by I a large concourse of friends and neighbors. Interment was in Ratcliff Cove burying ground.
