HELD MEETING
An enjoyable meeting of the Hay
wood Chapter, No. 940, United
Daughters of the Confederacy, was
held Friday afternoon at the home of
Mrs. J. H. Howell, with Mrs. R. R
Campbell presiding. There were
twelve members present and Mrs. E.
S. Harrold. Mrs. R P. Walker, and
Miss Ida Jean Brown were guosts.
The main feature of the afternoon
was a paper given by Mrs. J. R. Mc
Cracken on "South Carolina in trie
Confederacy." This paper was not
only splendidly prepared with a world
of unusual information, but it was
most attractively presented Miss
Ida Jean Brown sang in her usual
splendid manner, "The Bonnie Blue
Flag.
The programs for the 'yea- were
distributed and were received with
much enthusiasm by the '.members.
The subjects to be studied this year
are Confederacy and they will be no
only interesting, but instructive.

On Thursday evening last, Mr. and

Immediately after the supper a
meeting of the Haywood County Bar
Association was held with the pres
ident, Mr. W. R. Francis, presiding.
At the meeting the members voted
nine to eight to rescind fee bill which
they had adop'ted during the summer
and which prescribed minimum fees
for the services usually performed by
a lawyer ' "This action leaves each
lawyer free to charge as little or as
much as he pleases.

of the Canton Bar; Mr. George H.
