This company of evcnty-threc men
and officers was called for service in
1812, soon after the docla ration of
war. It is not clear us to where they
served, the record not Immiir explicit;
bnt it is more than probable that thoy
woro retained in Western North Car
olina to watch the Indiana who were
preparing to go on the warpath in
aid of the British. Many of them
were with Andrew Jackson the nexl
year when he subdued the Creek In
dians in Alabama.
Another company was raised m
1811 and detached from the Seventh
Regiment. William Cathey, a dis
tinguished soldier from Haywood
County,- was made first major, and
Thomas Lenoir, also rf the county
was made second mujor. The

25, 1815, to rendezvous at Wadesnoro.
North Carolina, where they remained
until some time in May of that year
when they were mustered. out of service.
