Canton. She was graduated from
Greensboro College and since gradua
tion has been a successful teacher in
the North Canton graded school. She
is a charming and attractive young
woman and is admired by a host of
friends.
The bridegroom is the son of the
late Dr, R. C. Long and Mrs. Long of
Lake Junaluska and a grandson of
the late Rev. J. R. Long, pioneer
minister in Western North Carolina,

.Miss Anne Seawell celebrated her
birthday with a party on last Wed
nesday evening. She had as her
guests twelve girls and twelve boys
as this was her twelfth anniversary,
The home was cnarmmgly decorat
ed with pink roses, sweetpeas and
larkspur.
The lovely birthday cake with
twelve lighted candles was cut by the
guests.
Games and contests featured the
entertainment. Hilda Way and Dick
Henry each received a box of candy as
winners in the contests. :

One of the most brilliant events of
the season was the dinner party given
by Miss Virginia .Welch Monday
evening at the Gordon Hotel.
Red, white and blue predominated
in the elaborate decorations, thus car

The guests assembled at the Hipps
home to start on the quet for the
hidden treasures. Direction for the
next drive and search were found at
each place as the merry party drove
on their ronnds from place to place.

At a charmingly appointed wedding,
Miss Jean Bowman, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. L. S.Bowman, of 109 East
Spruce street, became the bride of
Roy Gordon Miller of Waynesville, N.
C, on Saturday evening. The nup
tial ceremony was performed at the
ome of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Bow
man, relatives of the bride at 728
East Nutwood street,. the Rev. Thomas
L, Burden of the First Methodist
Episcopal church officiating. The doub
le vow ritual was used.
The marriage service was read be
fore a huge panel of flowers in the
presence of about sixty j'uesta. The
bride was lovely in her wedding gown
of light -blue crepe trimmed with
cream lace with which she wore a lace
cap beaded with pearls, Her bouquet

Macon, Georgia are among the recent
arrivals at the Gordon Hotel.

Mrs. Marie E. Gravely of New
Orleans has arrived to spend the sum

beth Ray was charming hostess at a
buffet supper and bridge party enter
taining in honor of her guest, Miss
Marion Gibbs of New Ycrk City.
Quantities of garden flowers were
effectively arranged for decoration
throughout the home. The dining
room table from which the supper
was served was graced with a lovely
bowl of mixed flowers and yellow
tapers in silver holders.
The evening was spent in playing
