i THURSDAY. DECEMBER 8, 1932 WINBORNE AFTER GOVERNORSHIP IN 1935 SAYS RUMORS Judge H. Hoyle Sink Will Likely Be In Race For Nomination THE WAYNESVILLE MOUNTAINEER CO-EDS BOARD THEMSELVES i . Burlington, Vt. Some 0!O young women at the University of Vermont, who want a college education enough to board themselves are spending only 50 tents to $2.50 per week for food, a recent survey revealed. These sdt'-buarding students have been in- tuctcu a to tho essential lactors in I !'ood st iion for health. Raleigh. J. Wallace Winborne. than man of the sta;e Democratic extfutiv.- committee, credited with pihng up the biggest majority ever pulled m the state, will be a candi date for the Democratic nomination for Governor of .North Carolina in 193.). Although he is in line tor almost any fat federal job either in Xoe;h Carolina or Washing tun he miirht wart. hu w n,. .. f,. ny ol these. C. L. bhupmg of Greensboro, who was manager of the successful cam paign ot Senator Josiah William Bailey against Senator F. M. Sini. mons in ly.JU, will probably he ap poimeu collector ot internal revenue ior iNortn Carolina, although he is now being pushed for the post of internal revenue in Washington. inese are the two newest devel opments to Come out Of the nolitinnl grist mill that is now running fast anu lunuusiy nere. lney are also two of the most creditible out of nunoreus ot reports and rumors heard on every side involving the politically grealt and near great since me recent election assuring a Democratic adminitrntinv. witu u0 attendant distribution of Democratic pie in tne lorm ot lederal appoint ments. h is generally conceded that Win oorne couia nave any of tho more choice federal appointments either here in the start e or in Washington, if ne wanted one. But it is understood that he much prefers to return ,!o his large law practice in Marion rather than accept a federal" job. The pri mary reason for this is ithat he would rather seek the Democratic nomina tion for governor of North Carolina in 19U5 than become a federal pie recipient now. It is agreed that the acceptance of a federal appointment would undoubtedly hamper any one with asperations to become governor Anuche- reason Winborne is not in terested in any federal job, entirely aside Irom his desir,, or intention to seek the Democratic nomination for governor in 1935, according to those who know him ben:, is that his pres ent law practice is much more lu curative than any federal appointment he migh be able to get. It is said by those in a position to know that Winborne is still one of those com. paratively few lawyers in North Carolina still having an income from his legal practice of at not less than $25,00(1 a year, k is also agreed that he will need to savt all of his income he can for the next three vears if he intends either to run for governor or to become governor. 1 he doctor of a country village had! iwc. cr.mirtn, the prettiest little girls i t 'e district. While they were out walking one day they happened to - two small bovs. one of whom was a visitor in the village. Said the htttr to his friend "Who are thos,. pretty girls?" The village boy replied "They are the doctor's children. He always keeps the best ones for himself." he is being urged for the appoint ment as commissioner of internal levenue in Washington, with Senator Bailty and several of the spate's con gressmen using their influence to this e:: J. I he more conservative riolitieal observers here, however, do not be lieve that North Carolina is likely to get tne appointment ot thp commis sioner of internal mvnnp atrnin that it is likely to go to a Kentuckian or a Democrat in some other state. So the bulk of the belief here is that all Shunin and hid fripnHs hnrui fni is to get it he appointment as collector of internal revenue here in .North Car ina, which is reallv iust as cood a lob. from a financial ctnnrlnnint oe a the commissionership in Washington. Shuping and his friends are hence regarded as merely using political strategy in aimine- at the larger of. (ice in order to assure his getting the collector's job here- Several cithers are being mention. d tor the appointment as collector in this state, among them being Lieutenant R. .T Founltain and Wal ter Murnhv of Sjilifthnrv Rut Shuping is believed to have the edge on them all. Johnson of AfiheviIIe, formerly of Lumberton, and who for a time was expected to be a candidate for the nomination in in the 19U2 primary. There has re cently been some talk concerning the possibility that Superior Judge H. Hoyle Sink might he a candidate for the nomination in 19,'!5. while several other names have been mentioned. But opinion here generally is that if winoornt- does become a candidate and the conviction that he will is growing here daily he will imme diately be assured of verv strong support from both the western and eastern secltions ot the state. For while a resident of Marion, in the western part of the state, he is a native of Chowan county, in the extreme eastern part.
