The si;illishmoiit of llii' church at .of missionary Corinth is an example fiideavnr for all ages. The method I'lttployed anil the message delivered which resulted in success then w ill re . suit in success now. I. The True Missionary Method Acts ISil-It). Paul came t Corinth n stranger hi strange city. His method of gaining fool hold was, 1. Finding a home (v. 2). This he found with Aquila and Priscilla who ffiad recently been expelled from Kome. Being of the same nationality, there was a natural affinity with them. 2. Toiling for daily bread (v. 3). Taul was of the same craft as Ids liost. Every .Tewisli child was taught omo trade by means of which he oulil gain his livelihood, should occa sion require. Missionaries should not be above honest toil. (I. Preaching in the Synagogue at Corinth (Acts 1S:4 S). 1. Compelled to toil for a living v. 4). Though compelled to toil for a living, lie did not lose sight of his main worl;. He reasoned in (lie syna gogue every sabbath, persuading the Jews and the Crooks. 2. Mis activity Increased through the coining of Silas .and. Timothy '(v. b). This wiis caused by. . , a. Favorable report ill Thessaloiiic.'i. The from tl report 1 1 fell j new put viiror into his labors. b. They brouali' pecuniary gifts from the Macedonian church (l'hil. 4:15; II (.'or. 1.1:10. I'.eing now free from the iiec".ssi!y of toiling for a liv ing, he could devote-more time and energy lo preaching the gospel. c. Silas and -Timothy became help , vrs to I'aul in the work. : 1!. Increased .opposition (v, 0). Paul's increased activity met with increasing I opposition. I 4. I'aul announces his purpose to turn to the Gentiles (v. 0). This was i, necessitated because of the opposition i Jind blasphemy of the Jews. 5. Paul in the hotise of Justus (vv. 7, S). lie remained sufficiently near those whoso hearts Cod had touched that they could easily find him. His l.succoss here was such that Orispus, :tho chief ruler of the synagogue, was it converted. Tan I departed from his ;i usual custom and baptized Orispus. $ III. Paul's Vision (Acts IS :1 11). ;, This vision was for the purpose of r giving encouragement to I'aul at this time. His experiences in Europe w ore most trying. 1. "He not afraid" (v. ft). The one . who is doing the will of the I.ord need not be afraid. 2. "Speak, and hold not thy peace' (v. 0). The one who lias heard the voice of God cannot refrain from :' speaking. "I am with thee" (y. 1(1). All who faithfully carry out the divine commission can he assured of the fli '. vine presence. 4. "No man shall set on thee tn hurt thee" (v. JO).. No harm can come to .the Lord's servant until his work Is Oono. "i. "I have much people In this City" (v. JO). The one Who goes forth with the divine message can be assured that his ministry cannot fall. IV. Party Spirit In the Corinthian Church (I Cor. 1 :1 0-1 S). In this church rival factions were contending against each other. Some were for I'atil, some for Apollos, some for Peter, and. some. for Christ; The cause of this threatened division was failure to see the true headship of the church. Christ Is the one and only Head, and the members composing his body cannot be divided. .Membership and interest all center In Christ, l!y One Spirit all were baptized Into the one body (I Cor. 12:13). Sectarianism ts an evil to he deplored. The factious spirit in the church -.mars' its testimony and retards its growth. Those who understand the oneness In Christ will be joined together in the same mind. V. The One Supreme Message of the True Preacher (I Cor. 2:1-S). It IS Jesus Christ and him crucified. Prejudice and human limitations pre: Vent men ' -'from seeing eye to eye. Christian tinity is possible only as the roemoers to ins oouy grow up Christ: ;- : into Christ Uses All It Is umazlr.g what tise Jesus makes of frail mediums. None of the Twelve appears to have been a man of put Btanding position until Jesus took them and made them men of might and vision. That Is what Is continually happening. - No Hanging Back , Von must cast yourself on God's gosiiel with all your weight without hanging hack, without any doubt, with out even the shadow of a suspicion j that it will give.
