Program For Year
(Contributed.)
With an enrollment rising toward
a thousand students, the Clyde con
solidated district schools have begun
the school year with much force ami
enthusiasm, having as their objective
the largest and best program in at
tendance and achievement Known in
the history of the school.
This program covers every phase of
the school curriculum as set lortn Dy
the State Department of Education,
and as much extra curricula activ
itv :s nossible to add to the course
nf tnHv" thpvebv triving every boy
and girl an additional advantage in
some educational field.
The enrollment for the Clyde High
school alone numbers, four rundred and
twenty . children in the elemeii.ary
grades, and one hundred and seventy
one in the high school department.
By the end of the montn tnis num
ber is expected to far exceed six hun
dred Jludents. The high school en
rollment has reached already the goal
necessitating the addition of another
high school teacher. .
Despite the over-crowded condition
at the Clyde school, ' everyUiing. with
in this short time has become adjust
ed to the situaticin, and the students
have adaii.ed themselves and . fallen
into the line of, duty with less ditli
culty, it seems, than at any ; time ot
beginning heretofore...
The nrintipal, Mr.. S. E::Connatser,.
who was elected presidiirt of Ithe Hay
wood County Teachers Association
last Saturday, : has made a place
worthy' of attention in the ranks v3i
thc county public schools. ,His noble
and hich ideals have been an mspira
i icn to the " hundreds of boys and
crtvlc that have come under his in
fluence. He has been very instru
mental in raising 'the standards of
the schools in the system over which
he supervisee and which school sys
temin tu-m gives better, and gre; ;er
educational advantages to the chtolten
living within its boundaries. .
Besides the principal, the faculty of
this district numbers approximate y
thirtv teachers, all of whom held
certificates of high rating, and who
are well qualified to aid in the mate
rializaticn of this school program.
Sixteen of these '.eachcrs are-at Ciytie
proper.. ,
School authorities have expressed
their opinions as to .a most : success
ful school vear, due largely to leader
ship, and to the co-operative spirit
that has been shown .already between
teachers and patrons.

To Have A Revival
i
Forty-tive candidates reported for
football practice the tirst week. Hard
work on the fundamentals has brought
out some .new faces who have promise
of becoming hard driving Mountain
eers on the '35 machine.
Thad Chafin, Joe Cat hey, and Rich
ard Turpin are a trip of good Flank-
men. A couple of tall rangy tackles
in Hancock and Francis should make
opponents fall hard. The guards po
sitions with 'Fats" Davis, Fagg Saw
yer, SchuHiofer and "Chuff.y" String
rield at center, gives the Mountain
eers line speed and weight.
The backfield has not moved so fast
to date, but "Cuby" Truett, fast step
ping sophomore fullback should give
plenty trouble this fall.
The passing of Jack Rock Smith
and punting ol Leo Hill -should keep
the Mountaineers in the game.
The Mountaineers will hold three
hard scrimmages this week. With
light work-outs the following week on
fundamentals before the opening
game with the Hayesville Wildcats
September 20.
