Caught Saturday
In Cataloochee
What is believed to be the largest
trout ever caught from a Haywood
stream was landed Saturday nmrn
ing by Ffd Ferguson, of Clyde. 1 lie
trout weighed live pounds dressed, an. 1
measured '!(',-inches long. I lie weigiu
was about .ound when caught.
The trout was caught by Mi.
Feriruson in t'alaloochee, in about
two feet of water near a ivck pusi
above Jarvis l'alniei's at what is

Wildcat Hend. .
Many fishermen believe that they
have liooked this t lout in the. past.
but none were able to laiul mm. i
was estimated that tlie tisli was ai
least eight years old.
. A peculiar incident in landing the
trout was that the lih wnf snagged
bv the hook ami did ""t swallow it.
The hook caught the lush in the lower
side, and held tirm in a nn.
The fish was landed in nlwut two
minutes, imd quickly gave- up the
battle because of the shallow water.
Mr Ferguson saw the fish some time
hofoe he hooked It.. Just U-foliv
catching the big one, Mr. Ferguson
landed a half down about nine inche
Numerous lislieinien nere.aivei v.
ing the prize catch, remarked that
they had often caught the name t'h,
but "he always got away."

1,351 People Are
Given Tubercular
Examination Here
The District Health department con
ducted a clinic for the examination
of suspected cases of tuberculosa,
largely referred by physicians, for the
period of June 22nd to July 10th, in
clusive. The examinations were made
by Dr. H. L. Seay, a specialist from
the State Tuberculosis Sanatorium.
The examination consisted of a flu
oroscopic examination of all appli
cants, with a complete chest examina
tion of selected cases. A total ct
1.351 individuals were examined by
Dr. Seay. among which number it was
found that 78 were infected wrth
childhood type of tuberculosis, and 3b
with the adult type. These were new
cases not having formerly been diag
nosed. Also, 56 individuals that had
..dv kwn Hiavnosed as h&viiu?
tuberculosis 'were examined. In ad
dition 3 individuals were designated
as probably having tuberculosis, n.j
11 doubtful case were louna.
total of 1,044 were free from any
indication of having the disease.
In Havwood county 37 inaiviauaia
were examined, among which 23 new
cases of childhood type, nd 10 new
cases of adult type tuberculosis were
found. Also, 27 individuals wno naa
previously been diagnosed as having
tuberculosis were exammeo. uno
cae was declared to be doubtful, and
297 were found to be free ot tuber
culosis. Seven of the positive case
were advised to take sanatorium
treatment, 30 were advised to Uko
home treatment, and 1H were advised
to have X-ray pictures mae.
The successful handling of .tuber
culosis depends almost entirely upon
rn early diagnoois. The health de
ts t have a clinic of
this nature annually, and by so doing
assist the physicians in confirming
their diagnosis at a stage of the dis
ease when much can be accomplished
in its treatment.

..BE SURE YOUR REFRIGERATOR IS
COLD ENOUGH IN HOT WATHER
If the food compartment of
your refrigerator it above 50
degrees, there if danger to
health as well as wasteful food
spoilage. Don't take a chance.
Find out whether your refrig
erator is cold enough. The
one sure way to know li to
"take its temperature." That's
why we, as local sponsors for
National Food-Safety Check
up, offer this valuable Cold
Gauge fret to adults calling at
our store. It's not an ordinary
thermometer, but a special
instrument designed expressly
to check refrigerator tempera
tures. U. S. Government
Bulletin warn . -
that the temperature of the
compartment in which food is
stored must be kept at 50 de
grees or less if rapid develop
ment of harmful bacteria is
to be avoided. Even at a few
degrees above 50, many kinds
of mold and bacteria, always
present in food, multiply by
the millions and become a
serious menace to health.
Many hot weather "upsets,"
especially those common
to babies and children, are
really caused by improperly
kept food. And you can't de
pend on sight, smell or taste.
Leading authorities agree that
food may seem all right yet
actually be unfit to eak
End uncertainty
Make the Cold-Gauge test
without delay. It is a mistake
to take for granted the safety
of your refrigerator. Recent
surveys reveal a a amazing pet:,
ctntagt of refrigerators Jail to
keep safe low temperatures during hot summer
weather. So stop in at our store and get your
Cold-Gauge fret, while the supply lasts. Check
up on your refrigerator at once.
