Mrs. Cameron Lewis, of Charleston,
West Va., the former Miss Eve.lyn
Lee, is arriving this week to spend
sometime with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. T. Lee, at their home in the
Fairview Road.
Mrs. Woodson Jones and small
daughter, Nancy Jones, left Sunday
for High Point, where they will spend
this week as the guests of the form
er's sister, Mrs. Joe Doggett. 1
Mrs. R. Q. MeCracken and her
daughter, Mrs. Grady Rogers, spent
the week-end in Bryson City, where
they were the guests of the former's
granddaughter, Mrs. Wayne Battle.
Mr. C. B. Pheiffer and son, Mr. C
B. Phei.ffer, Jr of Sylvania, Ga.,
were guests during the week of rela
tives in the county. Over the week
end they visited the former's sister-
in-law, Mrs. W. L. MeCracken.
Mr. B. S. Marsh, who is located for
several months at West Jefferson,
joined his family here for a week-end
visit.
Miss Lois Harrold had as her guests
during the week, her young nieces,
Betsy and Harold Lee, daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Lee, of Asheville.
Mrs. H. B. Freeman and daughter,
Miss Hattie Siler Freeman, were the
guests over the week-end of the form
er's sister, Mrs. John Brewer, at her
home in Asheville.
Mr. Joe Jack Atkins, who is at
tending Brevard College, spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. James Atkins.
Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Plott had as
their guests during the week, Mrs. J.
F. Cameron and two sons, Mr. JacK
Cameron and Mr. Woodrow Cameron,
and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs, Ray Harwood, of Asheville.
Mrs. S. T. Neal. who has been visit
ing her son and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Neal. in WSnston-Salem.
has returned home.
Mr. and Mrs. Felix Stovall and
small daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey
Stovall and two small children, and
Mr. Raymond Stovall, spent Sunday in
Cleveland, Ga., where they attended
a family reunion.
Mr. Wade Mangnm, who is now lo
cated at West Jefferson, spent the
week-end in town as the guest of
friends.
The graduating exercises of the
Clyde High School were held on Tues
day evening, April the 27th, in the
school auditorium, with a record crowd
in attendance.
W. G. Byer3, clerk of superior court,
delivered the literary address, the
subject of which was. "A Call to
Service." Jack Messer, county super
intendent of schools, presented the
diplomas to the eleven girls and four
teen boys graduating.
Jack Medford was the valedictorian
of the class, and Ruth Hooker was the
salutatorian. Other members of the
class were: Ruth Anderson, Evelyn
Fincher, Anna Mae Henline, Carleen
Rhinehart, Elizabeth Rogers, Ruth
Snyder, Vividean Swayngim, Tommie
Davis, Jack White, Charles Bennett,
C. E. Brown, Mark Cathey, Hugh Gos
sett, Jack Greene, Zane Gray Hall,
Edwin Hardin, W. V. Haynes, Troy
Henline, Earl Leatherwood, Weaver
MeCracken. Linwood MeElroy, Jewel
Jolly, and Joe Palmer.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hardin, Jr. and
small son, Bobbie, wha have been vis
iting the former's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. Hardin, in Washington,
D. C, and Mr. and Mrs.. Roscoe
Weaver, in Hagerstown, Md., return
ed home on Wednesday. They were
accompanied by Mrs. W. L. Har
din, who has arrived for the sum
mer. Mr. Hardin will not return to
town until the adjournment of Con
gress. Mrs. G. C. Briggs has returned to
town for the summer, after an ex
tended visit to her daughters in Nor
folk and Washington. She has as her
guests her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. George Hendry, of Ath
ens, Ga., the ltter before her mar
riage was Miss Lois Briggs.

Methodist Confer
ence Will Be Held
Friday At Lake J.
The Waynesville district, composed
of the Methodist Episcopal Churches,
South, from Murphy to Canton, wiil
hold an all day conference on Friday,
May the Jth, at Ixng's Chapel at
Lake Junaluska, with the Rev. W. A.
Rollins, presiding elder of the district,
presiding.
The principal speaker of the day
wi'l be Uishvp Paul K. Kern. At
11:30 o'clock the sermon will bo de
livered by the Rev. N. C. Williams, of
Kannapolis. At noon luncheon will
be served those attending by the wom
en of the church.
A large delegation is anticipated,
During the day the ten delegates
which are allowed the district, will be
elected to attend the annual Western
North Carolina conference which will
convene in Asheville, the date to be
announced later.

High Priest of the Grand Royal Arch

Bodies.
About 200 Masons 0f the state are
expected to attend the sessions of the
three Grand Bodies, the presiding of
ficers being J. Edward Allen, of War
renton, Grand Commander of the
Knights Templar; T. Troy Wyche,
Grand Master of the Grand Council
and Luther T. Hartsell, Jr., of Con
cord, Grand High Priest of the Grand
Royal Arch Chapter.
