MRS. MARSHALL MESSER
Funeral service for Mrs. Marshall
Messer, fifty-six, of Cove Creek, who
died Wednesday afternoon, February
23, of double pneumonia were held at
the Cove Creek Baptist church, t riday
afternoon at two o clock.
The Rev. Mr. Hicks officiated. Bur
ial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Messer has been a member of
the Panther Creek Baptist church for
a number of years. She served as
postmistress for eight years.
She is survived by her husband, a
foster daughter, Miss Mae Messer,
of Cove Creek, and two brothers, An
dy Moore, of Leicester, and Lawson
Moore, of Baltimore, Md., and one
aister, Mrs. Delia Smith, of Leicester.
MRS. MYRTLE CARTER
Mrs. Myrtle Carter, 38, who died at
her home here on February the 9th,
was buried on the 10th, in Green Hill
cemetery. The Rev. Arrington offi
ciated. Mrs. Carter is survived by her hus
land, M. M. Carter, and two sisters,
Mrs. Finny Thompson and Mrs. Min
nie Teague, both of Copperhill, Tenn.

the high bench, but latest reports
from Washington are that Justice
Benjamin Carlozo is showing rapid
improvement and is in the "convales
cent stage," after a long illness.

Christian Youth Council
To Meet Here On Sunday
There will be a meeting at 3 o'clock
next Sunday afternoon at the First
Baptist church of the Christian Youth
Council of the Waynesville township.
Among the speakers of the afternoon
will be the Rev. Holcutt, of the First
Baptist church, of Sylva. There will
also be special music.
The meeting is being called at tljis
time for the purpose of discussing
the proper solution of the social prob
lems of the youth of today.
The meeting is open to the public
and all persons interested in the social
and moral problems of young people,
are urged to attend.

Rev. Frank Leatherwood, of Waynes
ville; five daughters, Mrs. A. H. Ma
son, and Mrs. D. Granger, both of
Greenville, S. C, Mrs. Pearl Elders,
Mrs. W. M. Huffman, and Mrs. Alney
Mehaffey, all of Waynesville, and a
large number of grandchildren.

Ash Wednesday, the beginning of
Lent. On this day the ashes from the
burned palm of last year are placed on
the forehead of the faithful in the
form of a cross reminding them of the
season of penance, with these words,
"Remember man thou art but dust,
and unto dust thou shalt return."
The Stations or Ways of the Cross
will be held after the mass on each
Sunday. Morning mass during the
week on Monday, Wednesday and Fri
day will be at 8:30 a. m.
Instructions for the children will be
held On Saturday morning at 9:30.

day afternoon, February 20th, at 2:30
o'clock at the home of her patents, Jim
and Ida Love, on Boyd Avenue, for
O'Wilda Love Brown, 34, who died on
Friday, after a long illness. Rev.
Amos Copeny, pastor of the Baptist
church,, officiated. Burial was in the
cemetery nearby.
She had been residing in Chicago
