Lane, through personal contact and correspondence is trying to arouse the community to the urgent need of joining the League For Clean Reading which is a national movement of civic groups formed to encourage wholesome reading and to discourage the distribution or sale of all reading matter which glorifies crime or criminals, is "sexy" or fea tures illicit love, certain illustrations suggestive or indecent, and carries disreputable advertising. Father Lane asks that the churches, as well as every organization in the community, joint in this movement, not only for the sake of innocent readers, but to bring before publish ers of indecent reading matter, the fact that the great majority of the American people do not want such literature released. He points out the fact, that "The Legion for Decency," for clean pic tures proved beyond doubt that the American people did not "demand" that type of picture which was being shown a few years ago, and that the better and more wholesome type has not only pleased the public, but has been of profit to the producers. During the past year many new pictorial magazines have appeared on the newstands, some not so offensive, while others have appealed in an un healthy manner to the minds of the young, and still others seem to have a Communistic motivation, all of which points to an attempt to under mine morality as the best way of un dermining faith and religion. National support of the movement has been promised by the postal au thorities and Edgar Hoover, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Go To Church Sunday WAYNESVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Dr. R. P.
