BROWN Last rites were conducted on Tues day afternoon at three o'clock at the first Methodist church for Mrs. b. Wesley Brown, 79, widow of the late E. W. Brown, of Waynesville, who died at her home here on Monday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock, following an illness of several weeks. The Kev. J. G. Huggin, Jr., pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev, Dr. R. P.Walker, pastor of the Pres byterian church, officiated. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery. The active pallbearers were: L. M. Killian, J. W. Killian, Robert W. Howell J, Harden Howell, Robert H. Gibson, and D, Mark Killian, of Asheville, Mrs. Brown before her marriage to Mr. Brown in 1906 was Miss Addie Herren, member of a prominent fam- ly of Charlotte. She was greatly beloved by her family and that of her husband, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. MRS. VV. E, SMATHERS Last rites were conducted at the home in Canton, on Saturday after noon at 3:30 o'clock for Mrs. W. E, SniHthers, 72, who died at her resi- elicc on Newfound street at 7 o'clock on Friday morning, after a long illness. The Rev. W. H. Pless and the Rev Louie Lewis officiated. Burial was in the Locust Field cemetery. Serv ing as pallbearers were the grand sons. Before her marriage Mrs. Smath ers was Miss Tina Anderson.
