County Republican For Tax Collector And Supervisor (Vote For One) RANKIN FERGUSON J. II. FORD ' For County Commissioner ( Vote For Three) TAFT FERGUSON GRADY W. HENRY ROBERT M. HAWKINS VAN C. WELLS WALTER C. SMATHERS To The Voters Of Haywood County And Western North Carolina. Next Saturday night, June 4, will be the time when the people of North Carolina will learn whether the Eastern section of the State will have one I'nited States Senator or two. The Senator to be nominated Saturday, by custom of nearly one hundred years standing, should come from the Western Section of the State. Mr. Hancock, the opponent of Senator Reynolds, lives in Oxford, which is within forty miles of Raleigh, the home city of Josiah W. Bailey, the State's Eastern Senator. The nomination of Mr. Hancock would give the State two-Senators. from the East. By a close observation of a map of North Carolina, it will he found that Mr. Hancock lives eight miles further East than does Senator Bailey. The custom of naming one Senator from the West and one from the East has been recoirnized bv the Demo cratic party since 1K:, when Orange County furnished both Senators in the persons of Willie .P. Mangum and William A Graham. Geography is an issue in almost every campaign of any importance in I the State. A little time spent in the sessions of the General Assembly at llaleigh will disclose just how sharp is the division of opinion on matters j'bi-tweeli Easterners, Westerners, and residents of the Piedmont section. After the Democrat ie party has stood by this century old custom of ! elect ing a Senator from the West and one from the East, and rotating the Governor from the East to West every four years, I cannot believe that now, in the face of the tine record Senator. Reynolds has made .for himself in sup porting legislation designed to protect the farmer, to aid the masses, safe I guarding the rights of business and industry, and championing the cause of labor, the Democratic voters of the State will select two Senators from East ern .North Carolina. Senator Key nobis has answered the roll call and voted on every- impor tant piece of legislation coining before the I'nited States Senate during his term of otlice. He has seemed more jobs in Washington for North Caro linians during his term than any other Senator has secured for his people. No United Stales Senator has lone..n more thorough job of representing his people than Senator Reynolds. 1 am hoping the people of Haywood County and of Western North Carol inn will cast a lai ge and overwhelming Vote for Bob Reynolds -on June 4, and with the tremendous vote he will receive throughout the State, he will be re-elected to the Senate to continue to rep resent the people for six more years. W.R. Francis, Assistant V. S. Attorney. Paid Advertisement. rapldls Iff 1 wg,iEf Reserves Ke-EBec4oM Six years ago the people of North Carolina elected Robert R. Rey nolds (Our Bob) to the United States Senate by an overwhelming ma jority. . o sassm "ww I 1 He. .has kept his campaign pledges to support the policies and programs of the Democratic Parly. He has supported all humane legislation designed to hetter the living and working condi tions ol all classes. He believes strongly In the high purpose of the ROOSEVELT Administration. He is known as one of the hardest workers and .busiest Senators at the Capitol. He has voted on all important matters. He has never straddled or side-stepped an issue. He is considererate, courageous and courteous. Senator Reynolds is in the forefront in sham pioning the cause of labor, protecting the farmer, aiding the masses and safeguarding the rights of business and industry. He has been particularly active in handling the affairs of our veterans of all American Wars. He opposes any foreign entanglements that might lead this nation into another World War. Senator Reynolds ranks high on four impor tant Senate Committees, namely: Hanking and Currency Military Affairs Territories and Insular Affairs and District of Columbia. lie has whole-heartedly co-operated with State, County. City and Chambers of Commerce officials for the advancement of North Carolina. His secretary, Wesley E. McDonald, was on the secretarial staff of the late United States Senator Lee S. Overman of North Carolina for 12 vears and later served with United States Senator Cameron Morrison. His 18 years' association with the people of North Carolina and his experience and training in Washington enables him to render valuable service to all the people of the State. More people daily visit Senator Reynolds' .office at the Capitol than any other Senator's; his volume of mail (hundreds of letters daily) is one of the heaviest in the Senate, and his incoming telephone calls climb into the hundreds. His love for his State inspired him to deliver hundreds of addresses before patriotic and fra ternal Societies throughout the Nation, pointing out North Carolina's industrial and business op portunities, its scenic attractions and describing its historical shrines. Senator Reynolds is popular with his col leagues and with (iovernment Department officials. He has made great strides. His unbounded energy for work, his ability to speedily absorb compli cated matters, his keen interest in his constitu ents, his loyalty and devotion to his Stale and his radiant personality have made him a National figure. HE HAS STOOD UY THE PRESIDENT. HE HAS STOOD "BY THE PEOPLE. A VOTE FOR REYNOLDS IS A VOTE FOR ROOSEVELT. To know Senator Reynolds is to admire him. YOUR VOTE WILL BE APPRECIATED. GO FORWARD WITH REYNOLDS. This space paid for by the friends and supporters of Bob Reynolds)
