Fearing the further spread of foul brood, C. H. Brannon, Department Chief Entomologist, said that "strict bee regulations are necessary at pres ent to prevent the further siiread of disease." Under the regulations, 'Jflees on combs or foundation, used hives or other used apiary equipment" can not be shipped into North Carolina; however, bees in certified packages are permitted, Brannon explained. A department survey revealed that foulbrood has been found in 3.4 per cent of all colonies of bees inspected by the Entomology Division's apiary inspector. Approximately 1I.E50 colonies have been inspected by the depart ment, with disease eradication work now being concentrated in Haywood, Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Robeson and Washington counties.
