WOMAN'S CLUB TO HOLD MEET ING NEXT WEEK The Octi ber meeting of the Wo man's Club, will be held on next Thursday afternoon in the Welch Me morial Sunday school building of the Baptist church, with Mrs. Dan Wat kins, president, presiding. Mrs. S. P. Gay, chairman of citizen ship, will have charge of the pro gram, which will include facts dealing with the work of her department. Hostesses of the afternoon will be Mrs. Jack Messer, Mrs. C. N. Sisk, Miss Robena Miller, Mrs. U. W. Col kitt, and Mrs. M. G. Stamey. ATTENDED DENTAL MEETING Dr. S. P. Gay attended the meet ing of the First District Dental So ciety, which was held in Rutherford ton, on Monday. ' FISHING TRIP TO LAKE SAN TEETLAH The following made up a party spending several days fishing at Lake Santeetlah, during the week: Dr. an I Mrs. N. M. Medford and their guest. Miss Viola Folsom, W. L. Hardin and Dr. Rufus McCracken. Dr. and Mrs. N. M. 'Medford and children, Be Be and Phil, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. James W. Summers to Johnson City, over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Summers will remain in Johnson City for several days. Kh. .1. S. HOPKINS GOES TO HIGH POINT FOR MEETING The Rev. J. S. Hopkins, pastor of the Baptist ehurcli, has gone to High Point, where he will assist the Rev. A. L: Full;, pastor of the North Main Street Baptist church in conducting a revival service. The Rev Hopkins held a similar meeting for the church in High Point three year ago. He will return to town the first. of next week. Mrs. Charles E. Ray, Jr., left Fri day for Chapel Hill, where she will visit friends and relatives. ' Mrs. E. T. Duckett spent the week end in Candler, as the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Glenn Leatherwood. w Newton Cook, of Murphy, spent the week-end in town as the guest of friends. Mr. Cook formerly resided here, and was the supervisor' of the rehabilitation farm -work in Haywood and Buncombe counties. He holds a similar position in Cherokee county. Miss Lucile Plott, of the City Hos pital, of Newark, N. J., is spending this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Jim Plott, at their home in Mag gie. She has as her guest Miss Haz"l Warrener, also of the City Hospital staff. Mrs. C. N. Sisk and daughter, Miss Helen Sisk, are visiting relatives and friends in Suffolk, Va, Charles Rallontiiip and Marcus Rose spent the past week-end with friends in Greenville and Spartan burg, S. C. . Lenoir Gwyn, returned home on Saturday Conservation Board Enjoys W. N. C. Meeting The state department of Conser vation and Development board ended their three-day fall session here last Tuesday afternoon, after taking a trip through the park, and through the Nantahala Gorge, to Warrior Moun tain and Franklin. The board gathered here Sunday ; f 'i noon, spent Monday making changes in the game laws as cited in this newspaper last week, and at noon were guests at luncheon at the Hotel Gordon, which some till business ard civic leaders of Western North Caro- lint attended. Immediately after the luncheon the party left on the trip through the park and on into Brvson City for the night. The members were warm in their praise of this section, as it was the first time that some hail spent much t)ime in the mountains, anil espe cially in the fall. The .board heard pleas for permit ting Sunday hunting. They went on record urging the state highway de partment to construct a road on Mount Mitchell. A request was made of the board that they close state refreshment stand ai the Balsam tish hatchery, on the grounds that the stand I'lit.s the state in competion with a privately owned place across the highway. The board spent more than an hour at the hatcherv Tues day afternoon, and made personal visit of the two stands involved. They did not disclose what action they would take before they left here. Mildred Arrington anil Miss Dornthy Ilaney, both employed at Enka, returned home last week from a fortnight's visit in South Carolina, which they intended to spend in Charleston. When the tornado struck the city they were stopped one block from the direct line in which the tornado destroyed everything in its way. : After this experience Miss Av lington and Miss Haney decided that Aiken might be a more desirable place to spend their vacation and so finish ed their visit in South Carolina there. Boy Scout Hut Is Dedicated The formal dedication of the $400 Boy Scout hut in the city park took place last Friday night, with Rev. J. G.- Huggin, Jr., making the dedica tory address. The troop is sponsored by the Rotary Club. The members of the troop, under the supervision of their scoutmaster, J. t. brown, prepared and served a hsn super to the Rotarians. The Rotary troop is part of the work of the boys work committee, and the committee is made up of B. E. Colkitt, J. C. Brown, Frank Davis, LeKoy Davis and J. E. Massie.
