JOINT HOSTESSES GIVE CON
TRACT PARTY
One of the delightful affairs of the
week was the contract party given
on Thursday afternoon at the Way
nesville Country Club with Mrs.
Ernest J. Hyatt and Mrs. George
Bischoff as associate hostesses. For
the occasion the lounge of the club
was attractively arranged in greenery
and flowers.
When the scores were totaled, Mrs.
S. P. Gay was found to hold the top
score, Mrs. Hallet Ward the second
high, and Miss Helen Sisk the low.
Mrs. Ernest L. Withers cut the con
solation. The gue6t list included, Mrs. J. W.

ANNUAL BANQUET TO BE HELD
BY MOLLIE BOONE SOCIETY
The annual Harvest Day banquet
of the Mollie Boone Missionary So
ciety will be held on next Tuesday
evening at 7 o'clock in the dining
room of the First Methodist church.
Honor guests of the evening will
be the members of circle number 2,
of which Mrs. Bonner Ray is chair
man, this circle having made more
points of credit during the year than
any of the four in the organization.
Mrs. Troy Wyche is serving as
chairman of the program committee
and has worked out several interest
ing features. The women of the
circles are urged to attend.
WOMAN'S CLUB TO HOLD DE
CEMBER MEETING
The department of music will have
charge of the program at the Decem
ber meeting of the Woman's Club,
which will be held on Thursday after
noon, the 15th, in th Welch Memo
rial Sunday school building at the
Baptist church. In the absence of
Mrs. Evander Preston, chairman, Mrs.
Tom Spurlock will be in charge.
Hostesses for the afternoon will be,

well, Mrs. Linwood Grahl, Mrs. N. F.

Friday afternoon with a contract
party and miscellaneous shower as a
courtesy to Mrs. James E. Henderson,
the former Mrs. Caroline Ashton
Hyatt. She was assisted in receiv
ing by her daughter, Miss Babbie
Way.
After several progressions Mrs.
Alvin Ward was found to hold the
top score, Mrs. Johnnie Cuddeback
the second high, and Mrs. Hallet
Ward the low. Mrs. James W. Sum
mers cut the consolation. When the
cards were put away Mrs. Henderson
was showered with many lovely gifts
from the guests assembled, including
china, crystal and linens.

Mease entertained with a large con
tract party at the Waynesville Coun
try Club on Saturday afternoon. Six
teen tables were arranged in the
lounge. Red and green marked all
the decorations and the party ap
pointments. When the card were put away Mrs.
S. P. Gay was found to hold the high
score, Mrs. Earl Messer the floating,
and Mrs. Grover C. Davis the low.
They were presented attractive prizes.

BER MEETING
Mrs. R. N. Barber was hostess on
Friday afternoon of the Haywood
chapter of the Confederacy for the
regular December meeting Mrs.
Nobel Garrett, president, presided.
Mrs. Frank Ferguson, historian,
reported that she had presented the
declamation contest to the teachers in
the junior high school, and that they
had pledged their support to the stu
dents. She also stated that a number
of Confederate magazines had been
discovered and that she made arrange
ments with Miss Helen Medford to
have them bound in book form and
that they would be on file for refer
ence in the Waynesville Public Li
bray. The president appointed Mrs. F. E.
Alley, Jr. as chairman, and the fol
lowing committee to decorate the
stage of the high school auditorium
for the annual declamation contest
on Jan. the 19th. Mrs. John M. Queen,
Miss Robena Miller, and Mrs. J. Har
den Howell.
Mrs. C. F. Kirkpatrick reported the
sale of 242 flags on Confederate Flag
Day, which was recently observed by
the chapter.
