THE WAYNESVILLE BIOUNTAINBER
Names Of Towns In N. C.
Confusing To Strangers
President at TVA Dam
The stranger coming into North
Carolina will do well to study his map
thoroughly, lest he wind up in the
wrong place.
A dance orchestra, unaware of the
indiscriminate way in which names
had been tossed around on the Tar
heel map, found itself in Henderson
the wrong town an hour before time
for an engagement. The musieians
should have been in Hendersonville,
Henderson county, a good 260 miles
airline from Henderson, which is in
Vance county.
When the little coastal town ("lotte"

and pronounce it "loat") gets into
the news, it invariably is confused
with the piedmont city of Charlotte,
trade center of the Carolinas.
Then, there is Franklin, removed
by some 300 miles from Franklin
county. Even farther apart are Ma
con and Macon county, of which
Franklin is the county seat.
Raleigh, capital city of the Common
wealth, is far from Fort Raleigh, site
of Sir Walter Raleigh's "Lost Col
ony." Washington, called "Little Wash
ington" to distinguish it from Wash
ington, D. C, is not in Washington
county, but in Beaufort county. Beau
fort, on the other hand, is the county
seat of Cateret county.
Neither Mooreville nor Mooresboro
is in Moore county. Nor is Asheville
in Ashe county; Rockingham in Rock
ingham county; Greenville in Greene
county, Cleveland in Cleveland county
or Cherokee in Cherokee county.
Waynesville not in Wayne county,
but in Haywood.
One can't go wrong on Rutherford
ton, Lincoln, Gastonia, Durham,
Warrenton or Wilson, however. They
are in Rutherford, Lincoln, Gaston,
Durham, Warren and Wilson counties,
respectively.

MONEY
BETTER
BUILDING
As your tobacco checks come in, why not put your
money into buildings that will give you and your family
more comfort; or perhaps your barn needs repairing, or
maybe you need a new barn. Anyway, even if it is just
a few feet of lumber, or enough to build a house, you'll
profit by seeing us. We also have a complete stock of
builder's hardware.
