Miss Eugenia Boston Wedded
To William Balentine
Miss Eugenia Boston and Wil
liam Balentine were married on Sat
urday morning at nine o'clock in a
simple, but impressive ceremony at

TO MR. MEYERS IN MIAMI
Of wide spread interest is the fol
lowing account from the Miami Daily
News of the marriage of Miss Vir
ginia Smathers, daughter of Judge
the First Methodist church, with the an(, M,.s Frank Smathers, and
granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. B. F.
Smathers, and Mrs. S. A. Jones, and
the late Colonel Jones, of Waynesville:
"A late afternoon ceremony against
a background of Easter lilies, palms
and lighted candelabra yesterday was
used for the marriage of Miss Virginia
Smathers, daughter of Judge and Mrs.
Frank Smathers, of 443 N. E. 39th
street and Phillip Daniel Myers, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Christian
Myers, of Atlantic City, N. J.
"Ralph Roth played a prenuptial
program of music at the organ, includ
ing in his numbers the -Choral,' from
Bach; Traume,' Wagner; 'Andante
Cantable,' Tachaikowsk; 'Ave Maria,'
Hensilt; 'Romanse,' Sibelius, and
'Clare da Lune,' De Bussy. He used
'Lohengrin' for the processional,
played 'Ave Maria,' by Franz, during
the ceremony, and the Mendelssohn re
cessional. "The birde entered on the arm of
her father She wore a white lace
dress, made on princess lines and. 'ex
tending into a long train. Her veil
pastor, the Kev. James O. Huggin, Jr.
pronouncing the vows. Only a smail
group of intimate friends and rela
tives of the couple-- were in attendance.
Prior to the wedding Mrs. Douglas
Moore, organist, rendered a program
of nuptial music. For the . proces
sional she used the March from Lo
hengrin. The young couple entered the church
together-. The bride wore a suit of
sheer wool material in dusty rose,
with navy blue accessories. Her
flowers wert. a corsage of pink roses
and lilies of the valley.
Miss Boston is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. G. C. Boston, of New Bern
and Waynesville. She attended the
local schools and is a graduate of
. Brevard College. She now holds a
position as clerk in the office of the
county farm agent.
The groom is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Balentine, of Ware Shoals,
S. C. He is a graduate of the high
school of that place. He came to
Waynesville two years ago to reside

dressed alike in white, with embroid
ery 1 ot pink rosebuds. The dresses
were made wth pnk taffeta bodices
and fishu, anil picture hats were worn.
They carried colonial bouquets.
"Mr. Myers was best man, and
ushers were Mr. Smathers, Jr., George
Smathers, James Townley and Waid
Grantham.
"A reception followed at 5 p.m. .it

"The mother of the bride wore a
gray net-and lace dress. Her cor
sage was of pink camellias and her
hat was chartreuse and pink. The
mother of the bridegroom woi ivory
lace, trimmed in petunia, and her
ivory straw hat also was trimmed
in petunia. I
"After the reception, members of
the btidal painty were honored at
dinner on tht, hotel terrace.
"The couple left on a trip .to Nas
sau, and upon their return will resid'
in East Orange, N. J. For traveling.
Mrs. Myers wore a roval blue and
white print dress, with a royal blin
linen coat, blue and white hat, and
white accessories.

HOLDS APRIL MEETING
Mrs. John M. Queen and Mrs. Jim-
'my Boyd, Jr., were joint hostesses
1 of the Haywood chapter of the United
I Daughters of the Confederacy on the
occasion of the regular monthly
meeting which was held on Friday
afternoon at the home of the former.
In the absence of the prsident, Mrs.
Nobel Garrett, Mrs. John M. Queen,
presided.
Mrs. J. Harden Howell read in full
the report presented by the Nort'i
Carolina stat president at the gener
al convention which was held in Tulsa,
Okla., in which a detailed account of
the accomplishments of the N. C.
state division were set forth.
Plans for the organization of a chil
dren's chapter under the leadership of
Mrs. F. E, Alley, Jr., were formulated
during the business session.
Various reports were presented by
officers and department chairmen.
It was announced that Mrs. Thad
Howell would be hostess for the May
meeting, at her home on the Jonathan
Creek road.
OBSERVES 81ST BIRTHDAY ANNI-
Mrs. W. J. Jenkins celebrated her
eighty-first birthday anniversary at
the home of her son, Clark E. Jen
kins, in Clyde, during the past week,
with a family dinner
All her sons and daughters were
present, which included, Mrs, R. K.
Hall, of Arden, Mrs. W. H. Jarrett,
of West Asheville, Mrs. S. H. Melton
and Mrs. J. B, Swayngim, both of
Waynesville, L. O. Jenkins, of Ashe
ville, W, E. Jenkins, of Tampa, Fla.
Mrs. Jenkins has 32 grandchilaien
and 21) great grandchildren.
WOMAN'S CLUB TO HOLD APRIL
MEETING
The regular April meeting of the J
Woman's Club will be held on Thurs
day afternoon the 20th, with Mrs. Dan
Watkins, president, presiding.
Victor Jacoby, director of dramatics
and English teacher of the Spindale
school, will be the speaker of the af
ternoon. Hostesses will be Mrs. E. C. Wagen
