Barber and daughter, Miss Mary Ashworth Barber, have gone to Charleston, S. C., for a visit. Frederick Love, of Charlotte, spent the week-end in town with his mother, Mrs. Hugh A. Love. Mr. and Mr. Hugh Maggie and young daughter, Mary Anne, and Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Weatherby, were the guests over Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Lebo Massie at their home in Spartanburg. Mrs. Ray Burgin spent the week end in Tryon and Spartanburg with her family. Miss Anne Phillips has return ed from a week's trip to Washing ton, D. C, where she visited rela tives and friends. Benefit Attracted Large Number Guests The Haywood chapter of the Children of the Confederacy were hostesses of a benefit bridge party on Saturday afternoon at the home of the acting president, Patsy Gwyn. Special guests of the af-i ternoon were Mrs. L. E. Fisher, I of Asheville, statei president of the North Carolina division of the United Daughters of the Confeder acy, and Mrs. Noble Garrett, pres ident of the local adult chapter. Guests were greeted at the front door by Mrs. F, E. Alley, Jr., Patsy Gwyn, and Eugenia Martin, newly elected president of the chapter, Ruth Turner, Marguerite Way, and Lois Massie, members assisted in receiving. Those winning the prizes con tributed by the various business firms of the town were: Mrs. Hal let Ward, Mrs. Felix Stovall, Mrs. R. L. Prevost, Miss Robena Miller, Mrs. W. R. Francis, Mrs. White Mease, Mrs. M. G. Stamey, Mrs. Johnnie Ferguson, Mrs. Rufus Siler, Miss Lila Fisher, of Ashe ville, and Miss Mildred Crawford. Tea guests cutting prizes were: Mrs. J. R. Massie and young son, Joe Massie, who have been visiting the lormer a daughter in New York City, returned home on riday. Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mizell and young son, of High Point, were the guests during the week of Miss Alice Stringfield. Mrs. Mizell was before her marriage, Miss Julia Hayes, and at one time resided here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hayes, who now make their home in High Point also. Mr. Mizell was formerly in business in Waynesville. Mrs. E. W. Miles and young son, Earl White Miles, Jr., who have been residing in Wcstfield, N. J., arrived during the week to spend sometime here with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. G.Terrell. Mrs. Miles will be joined by her husband, Captain Miles, of Eastern Airways, and upon their return North they will be located at Great Neck, Long Island. Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Ketner, had as their guests during the week-end, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hen den, of Asheville. Vandenhoogen of the opening of the dining room at the Holland House, with the ini tial dinner to be served tomorrow night from 6 to 8 o'clock. "In opening our dining room to the people of Waynesville and vi cinities, we will aim to serve only first quality and wholesome food, well prepared in an atmosphere with a bit of old Holland," said Mr. Vandenhoogen yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Vandenhoogen, the former a native of Holland, came to Waynesville about a year ago from Hempstead, L. I., and leased the W. T. Lee residence on the corner of Branner Avenue and Walnut street. They have man aged a successful tourist home since coming here. Heretofore they have not served meals either to their guests or to outsiders, but feeling that there was a demand for more variety in eating places in town they are open ing the dining room to the public. Guests who intend to have din ner at the Holland House tomor- Civic League Meet Postponed To Wednesday The meeting of the Civic Leagu which had been scheduled for yes terday afternoon has been post poned until Wednesday the 17th. It will be held in the office cf the Chamber of Commerce, according to the president, Mrs. Rufus L. Allen. E. C. Horton, of Canton, candi date for representative from Hay wood County, will address the members. Ernest K. Herman, who has been a patient for the past several weeks in Mt.
