The Parsons have worked hard to get things in shape for the season, the lodge needed this renovating and repairing for it had been leas ed out for a number of years. The tennis court in front of the lodge will soon be ready. Steaks and barbecues will be arranged every week or so at the Parson Cabin on the creek. Balsam has the highest railroad station east of the Rocky Moun tains. Out here the days are cool and the nights are comfortable. The lodge has a typical mountain setting. From the front porch and bedroom windows can be seen two lofty peaks, Water Rock Knob and Jones Knob. It's a treat to sit in a rocker on the front porch and watch the clouds floating over their heads. If you are more ambition you can reach their summit on foot or horse back for a grander view. Whether you come for the sum mer, a month, week, day, or just drop in for a cup of tea, a very cordial welcome awaits you. All of us at Balsam wish this young couple well in their undertaking. Mrs. W. S. Christy is the mother of our postmaster at Balsam. She just arrived from Kansas to spend the summer with her son. Mr. and Mrs. John Knight, of Orland, and their three children, are visiting Mrs. Evelyn Knight, who is still sick in bed. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter are occu pying the Davidson Cabin for a few weeks. They are from Daytona Beach, and are connected with the Daytona Journal Their blue eyed baby boy is with them. Mrs. Elizabeth Milton and Mrs. Carl Olson, of Daytona Beach, are in the former's cabin for awhile. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Styles and Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Middleton visited Franklin, Highlands, High Falls, and High Hampton Inn Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Lloyd, of Miami and Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Nelson, of Asheville, picnicked on Mount Pisgah Sunday. Mrs. Arnold is visiting Mrs. J. R. Rork. Mrs, Clara Wentz visited Mr. and Mrs. Bryson in Cullowhee Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Rutledge and Mr. and Mrs. Macon are in the Thorn cabin for several weeks. Mr. and' Mrs. Edward Parson and their father and mother gave a five o'clock tea Sunday afternoon for the summer residents of Bal sam. Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Randal, Mr. and Mrs. Noyes, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Turner, Mrs. Tom Turner and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fen ton, Mrs. Emma Braren, Mrs. Hunter and young son, Mr. and Mrs. Ruskin. Mussolini has often told his peo ple he wants them to live danger ously. Now, it appears, he is about to give them the chance.- Methoriivf -v. . Surviving Jf. iHren( Mr, Balsam News Mr. and Mrs. Edward Parson, a charming young couple from Miami bought the Balsam Lodge from Mrs. Boice this winter and will manage and operate it. The young couple hardly need an introduction for they were both connected with the Gordon Hotel before their marriage and are well known in this section. They also have many friends in Florida having been connected with the San Sebastian Hotel. The lodge will be open from May the twenty-fifth to October the first. Mrs. Parson thinks that tourists coming back from Florida the latter part of May like to break r. LAWSON KIRKPATRICK children- ... KirknatriPi, T. Lawson Kirkpatrick, 71, Hay wood County fanner, died at his home in the Hyder Mountain sec tion of the county on Tuesday morning after a long illness. Last rites were held yesterdy morning at 10:30 o'clock at Fincher'a Chap el in the Hyder Mountain section. The Rev. W. H. Neece, pastor of Crabtree charge officiated. Bur ial was in the cemetery nearby. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a native of this county and had spent his en tire life in this section. He was a member of Fincher's Chapel Patrick "TH Patrick; sisters.
