- Blackie Bear -
By D. SAM COX
THEY ARE CERTAINLY GOING
TO CATCH BLACKIE
Story 51
When Blackie and the Boys came
back down from the mountains and
got all those things from Uncie
Joe's house that nighjt when
Howler was spending the night
with Rover Dog over at Mr. Man's
house, Uncle Joe was sure that
he really wouldn't stand it any
longer. And Mr. Man was right
ready to help him hunt for Black
ie, for he was getting mighty
tired of having to think that Black
in mieht have had something to
do with the stealing of Hee-Ha
w.
oven if hp wouldn't rlrivp him.

over near town to come out and j
help them hunt for Blackie. Theyi01 -arcn, ivw, amy executed by
got all the dogs they could find,'"1''1 Company, a body corporate
and they hunted all over the eoun-1 01 the State of Pennsylvania, and
try for miles and miles and miles F- - Rebok, of the County of
around days and night, but they I Franklin, State of Pennsylvania,
found no Blackie. Every day
somebody "would tell 1fce others
about some strange tracks that
their neighbors had told them
about seeing away over some
where else, and they would go to
hunt for them, but they never got
on the trail of Blackie.
You know Jay Bird was visiting
Who Who Owl while this hunt was
going on, and they would take
turns at following the hunting
party around. Who Who Owl
could see better at night, and so
when the hunters were out at night
he would follow them around and
laugh himself tired to see them
hunting a bear that was miles
and miles away from them and
havincr a rood time eatiner the good
things that they had worked to
make for him, and in the daytime
Jay Bird would follow them.
Both Jav Bird and Who-Who
Owl got lots of fun out of these
trips, and they would go back to
Who-Who house. and talk and
laugh about the way Mr. Man and
Uncle Joe and their friends were
wearing themselves out hunting
for Blackie Bear while he was
eating and sleeping all he wanted
to in his own home up at Lake
Bettie. But the hunters didn't
lose heart. They were sure of
getting Blackie, for every day
they heard of more tracks that
looked like bear tracks. And one
night Jay Bird followed Mr. Man
home just to see what he would
tell his wife about the day's hunt.
"Well, said Mr. Man, "we can't
eat any bear meat tonight, but
I heard all about the place whers
Blackie slept last night, and we
are going right over there tomor
row and get him. We are right on
his trail, and he will never get
away from us." And he sat down
to eat another supper without any
bear meat.
Jay Bird went back to Who
Who's house, and told him how
soon Blackie was going Ito get
killed, but Who-Who didn't cry a
bit about it. In fact, he laughed
as much as Jay Bird did, for it
was funny to see how Mr. Man and
his friends were fooled. Jay Bird
wanted to go back and tell Blackie
how; they were finding all sorts
of tracks except Blackie's, but
Who-Who bereed him to stay an
other day or two and see more of
the fun.
