THE WAYNESYILLE MOUNTAINEER Blackie Bear DONALD DUCK -WHO GOT THE TVEXOVERSt Story 81 It wu Sunday, and "preaching day" at the little church not very far from where Mr. Man lived. You already know that they had planned to go and to wear thenr new dothes. There waa no late Sunday sleeping in that house that morning. Bee-Haw had hardly quit braying before Mr. Man and his wife were both out of bed and getting things ready for the meet ing. " Mrs. Man fried chicken and bak ed biscuits and fixed up a lot of other good things that she was go ing to put in the basket with the turnovers. She smiled every time she thought of those turnovers, for Mr. Man had not only patted her on the back after eating three ,rr fnnr of them vester day. but had actually kissed her and told her that she was the best cook in ue world. And so you don't wonder that she smiled when she thought of them, and how he would enjoy eating them today at the church when be would be telling everybody to come up and eat something that the best cook in the world had made. Yes, the day was starting off fine. Even Mr. Man was trying to whistle "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," while he out feeding Hee Haw and his other Stock. Then he heard her call him to breakfast, and coffee to go along with it And a pleasant discussion of whether they would go through the woods or around the road to get to the church. Then the dishes were to wash and everything need Mi to be straightened up before leaving. Mr. Man had to have his pipe after breakfast, so he sat out on the steps and smoked his pipe and listened to his wife clattering the dishes and singing. When she had finished the dishes and gotten everything ready for the basket, she called Mr. Man to come and get readv for church. Now they were children all over again. Mrs. Man handled her new clothes like they had been china, and she was afraid they would break. She never had worn any- thing like them before these "Blackie Bear" clothes. New dress, new hat everything right spang new and full of color! And Mr. Man! She never had known that he could look that well at least not since a little after they were married, when he had quit "sprucing up. it took them a good - while to get their new clothes all fixed on them and to get enough of looking in the little mirror on the bureau, but after a while they seemed satisfied, and began to make ready for the finishing touch es on the dinner. Mr. Man hitch ed Hee-Haw to the wagon, put two chairs in it and drove up to the gate. And now everything was ready to put in the basket with the turn overs. "Go bring the basket from the spring house," called Mrs. Man from the kitchen. And Mr. Man went whistling to get the basket, while he licked his tongue like Blackie Bear, just thinking of how good those turn overs were. He nnhookH thp Hnnr. threw it open and reached for the basket, but there was no basket there! ' (To be Continued) Mountain Joe . . . THURSDAY, JANUARY 23 By WattDianJ ft! I was checking them over the other day, and was surprised to known there were so many. While I knew they were here, I had taken it for granted and never shown a real appreciation for the part they play in our economic and social life in the community. Our industrial set up is unsur passed.
