You already know how he bought new clothes and lots of other things for Mr. Man and his wife, and now look what he is doing for Uncle Joe! It has always been the hardest sort of a job to get Uncle Joe to cut and haul up enough wood to keep him and Aunt Judy warm all winter. He would just take his donkey and wagon off and chop down little trees and pick up dead limbs and things that were lying around on the ground. But it's going to be a lot differ ent this winter. That tree that Uncle Joe cut down to get his coon skin was one of the biggest old swamp pines you ever saw, and the top of it had died and become nice fat lightwood that lots of folks know as "kindling Wood." The green sap has all died down so that it catches fire and burns almost like coal oil that Uncle Joe and lots of other people use in' their lamps. The bottom of the tree was green, but after it has been stacked up and dried for a while it would make a great fira for winter nights. So Aunt Judy had put Uncle Joe to work on that tree, "Somebody got the coon out of that tree and left his skin, and then they got the honey and left you a lot of dead bees. Now you had bet ter hurry and finish cutting and hauling the tree before they get that," said Aunt Judy. Yes Blackie was just filling up Unci? Joe's yard and Aunt Judy's wood box with wood, and was going; to keep them warm all the winter, to they could sir up as late as they 'wanted, to and toast their feet by a p-ood fire, instead of having to go to sleep early, as they had done many a time before, just to get warm. Isn t Blackie a good bear, and hasn't he really more sense than some peo ple? After he got started at a thing-, Uncle Joe didn't really hate so awfully hard to work, but with him, as it is with so many other people, the trouble was to get started. Now that he was at work on that big tree, and got to thinking about the nice wood he was going to have for the cold nights, he had a good time at his work. A feller in oiy? His term expires in Jan uary, 1945, which is a long way off, a time during which anything could happen. Meantime, the evidence is accu mulating that Senator Reynolds no longer speaks for the great body or before the 6th day of February, 1942, or this notice will be pleaded in bar of their recovery. All per sons indebted to said estate will please make immediate payment. This the 6th day of February, 1941. COLLIE GARNER, Administratrix of the Estate of Eleanor Garner, deceased. E. Fisher: thence with the thetic organization known as "The Vindicators," which he himself pro moted. He assured his re-election in 1939 by claiming to have worked hand-in-hand with a popular Denir ocratic President. More and more since then, secure in the knowl edge that his term had years to run, he has opposed the President's foreign policy at every turn, until he has become an obstructionist to what most North Carolinians con- ne of sid lot, about N. 2" E. 140 sider a vital program of defending Britain as the first line in the ulti mate defense of the Americas. Besides that, the Senator shows distinct signs of harboring illu sions Of grandeur, of nourishing a notion of extreme nationalism and racialism. A far different fellow he has turned out to be from the easy-going, back-slapping, pleasure-loving youngish man from the mountains who campaigned over North Carolina in an ancient Ford. And it reminded him that he had better haul some more wood to his own house, for he had been so busy gathering his crops that he hadn't cut as much wood as ne would need. So it seems that Blackie brought Mr, Man over to help Uncle Joe cut wood, and that he put Mr Man to work at getting in some more wood for himself.
