Jonathan Creek
Women Have Good
Laying Chickens
Two of the outstanding flocks of
chickens in North Carolina are on
Jonathan's Creek of Haywood
They are owned by Mrs. W. T.
Rainer and Mrs. F. R. Kennedy.
Both of these energetic women
have made outstanding records
during the past year with their
flocks, by giving them undivided
attention.
Mrs. Rainer in ' telling of her
flock of 145 Barred Rocks, said
they were hatched March 9th of
last year, and layed their first eggs
in August. Since then they have
produced 14,360, or 1,196 dozen
eggs. ' 7 v ,
Mash, fresh water, oyster shell
and grit are kept before them all
at all times. At noon they are
fed a few oats, and at night they
are given all the corn they can eat
When the weather is cold, they
are given warm water and a warm
mash in the mornings, Mrs Rainer
explained. The birds are kept in
the house until 2 o'clock.
One phase of the successful poul
try program of Mrs. Rainer is see
ing that the birds have comtort
able, clean and well ventilated
houses. "These are essential to
high egg production," she said.
Mrs. Kennedy has a flock of 150
Utility Reds. These have pro
duced 17,304 or 1,442 dozen eggs.
bhe handles her flock in about the
same manner as her sister, Mrs.
Kainer.
This is the flock of Mrs. F. R. Kennedy, also of Jonathan Creek.
This flock of 150 was hutched last spring and has produced 1,442
dozen eggs.
