And you remember how curious Benny and Jenny were to know what tobacco smoke tasted like, after they had seen Blackie and his Creek Country friends sit around and smoke their pipes, that night when they came up from Bear Creek with the wagon that had the tobacco and all the other things in .it. And you certainly do remember how awfully sick those children got the next morning, after their curiosity had made them smoke a pipe of tobacco. So you needn't ever be surprised at any thing those children do, .Not only do they want to do anything that they see somebody else" do, but they are always thinking up something that hasn't ever been done. They always want to know how some thing feels or how something else tastes, and they are never afraid to try it. And now Benny wanted to know how it felt to uhot a gun and kill a rabbit or a bird or a duck, instead of having to run him down and catch him. , It was getting cold enough to make the ducks want to get away from their summer homes up in the cold country, where snow ' begins to fall pretty early in the winter; and some of them had seen the lake at Mountain House, as they flew on their waj to the warm Southern country, and had stopped over to spend the night, and maybe a day or two, on the pretty clear Water, where they could find plenty to eat. They had spent several nights there, and were there e"very morn ing when the children came out from breakfast. Benny and jenny had heard Blackie and the boys talking about the way they shot wild ducks on the big lake down at Bear Creek, and Benny told Jenny that he didn't see why he shouldn't take the gun that Jocko left with Grandpa and shoot some of the ducks and wild geese that ate their breakfast on the lake every morning. Some of you will remember how Jocko's other gun kicked him over, and scrambled the whole crowd up awfully, that morning last winter, when they went down to Blackie's lake and shot some wild geese. You will remember that there was an awful lot of powder in those shells that Mr. Man had bought to shoot Blackie with, and that when Jocko took rest with the gun on Blackie's back, and shot both bar rels at once, bo as to kill a whole lot of geese at one shot, the gun kicked him over backwards, and he had a great mixup with Doctor Coon, Billie Possum and the others. But Benny didn't care anything about what somebody else had done, or what had happened to him when he did it. He wanted to shoot some ducks himself. So, while Bettie and Grandma were busy washing the breakfast dishes, he slipped in the house and got the gun and ran down to the lake. He crept around behind the big sawdust pile, so the ducks on the lake could n't see him, and he had mighty good luck, for there were two big red headed ducks picking at some water lilies, and they didn't see Benny until he got his gun to his shoulder, and was just ready to pull the triggers. Then the ducks flapped their wings and rose from the water, but they were no quicker than Benny, for he pulled both triggers, just as Jocko had done, and killed both ducks, and for a little while, he wasn't right sure that he hadn't killed a boy bear, for the way that gun kicked him on the jaw was something that he remembers till this day. And he remembers perfectly well how cold that water was when he went in it to bring the ducks out. And he remembers just as well, if not a lit- Revival Services Start Sunday in Ratcliff Cove A revival service will start at Elizabeth Chanel Methodist church on Sunday morning at H o'clock, with M ra. You have seen, several times, how the wishes of the Creek Folks and Mountain House Folks come true, and now another wish came true, for that thoughtful Doctor Coon was sure that some day the Mountain House Folks would need some of his liniment and he left some with Bettie, And now Benny would tell anybody that Doctor Coon is the very best doctor in all the world, for his jaw soon quit hurting.
