THURSDAY, AUCUST,, THE WAYNESVIIXE MOUNTAINEER Page 8 1 WsKslm ?uillOfife)DDi(! 1 About Fifty Boys Expected To Be On Hand For Work Hard Schedule On Foot For Weatherby Men; Many Men Lost By Graduation. The thud of the pigskin will be heard once more Monday evening, August 25, as the first football prac tice of the Mountaineers gets under way. , Coach Weatherby was optimistic yesterday in that he expected about 60 candidates to report forwork outs and said practice would start promptly at 3:00. ' ' There will be keen rivalry among the boys this season as they fight to fill the gaps left by some of the star players of the '40 eleven due to graduation. According to the schedule releas ed yesterday by Coach Weatherby, the boys have some pretty tough games in line for them but under the capable direction they should make a very good showing for themselves. The boys are scheduled to play six Blue Ridge Conference games in connection with the schedule which is as follows: Sept. 19 Bryson High at Way nesville (Night game). 'Seot. 26 Andrews at Andrews. Oct. 3 Marion High at Way- nenville (Nieht game). Oct. 10 Sylva at Waynesville fKiirht eamei. Oct. 17 Canton at Canton (night game). Oct. 24 Hendersonville at Way. iienville (Nieht game). Oct. 31 Christ School at Christ School. Nov. 7 Mars Hill at Waynes ville (Pending). Nov. 11 Brevard at Brevard. Nov. 21 Canton at Waynesville, Belmont Loses To Hazelwood, 5-10 The Hazelwood nine met the Bel mont nine from Beimoni, xm. w last Sunday on the home field and defeated them 5 to 10. Moore uitching for Hazelwood allowed the Belmont boys only eight hits while the Belmont pitchers gave up eighteen. Blalock led the Jiazeiwooa nine hittinfir honors with four out of five and was also the only one to hit a circuit. Broom iea tne Belmont boys with two out of three All-Star Games To Be Played Tonight In Canton at 8:00 The Waynesville All-Star team vs. the Enka All-Star team tourna ment tilt which was scheduled for last Tuesday night will be played tonight in Canton, starting at eight o'clock.
