I have had a letter brou ght to

broV :;,
tor to Waynesville who is v i jV. comr
plimentary of Waynesville in geni
eral, however, he has critized oer
tain conditions he found txistirtjg
here during this summer.
This gentleman made reference to
theJVaynesville water supply as be
ing unsafe for drinking and the
cause of intestinal disturbances
among visitors here.- I am fa
miliar with the water shed and the
system of purification as prac
ticed in connection with the Way
nesville water supply, which I be
lieve to be satisfactory. I have
checked the reports of the analysis
of water samples sent to the North
Carolina State Board of Health
during the summer and find that
there has not been at any time a
report showing the water to be
polluted. .
A second complaint registered
by this individual was concerning
the method in which garbage was
handled in Waynesville . and the
presence of flies.
It is obvious that 'this complaint
is well-founded. Due to the inac
cessibility of the back yard of
most premisies in Waynesville, the
town require that garbage be placed
on the street for collection. This
is unfortunate, as garbage con'
tainers placed on the streets are
unsightly. Many citizens are using
improvised garbage containers
without covers which are not only
unsightly but fail to give proper
protection to the garbage. From
personal experience, I know that
garbage cans are sometimes stol
en -when left out over night How
ever, I would recommend that the
town officials require the use of
good garbage cans with tight fitting
covers. .' ',
Concerning the unusual amount of
flies present this year, this can
only be remedied by keeping gar
bage under cover and the removal
of manure from bams and lots at

Coach Weatherby said "anything
can happen in the line-up" between
now and the first game, because
positions on the team are wide

show that they have wnat it taKes
to fill them.
Coach Weatherby will be with
out the services of ten of his 1940
players due to graduation and
other reasons. Those who will be
missed most from last year's
squad are: "Shorty" Smith, Jim
Milner, Robert Mull, Roy McCrack
en, Paul Hedrick, Charles Gar
rison, Hugh Francis, Roger Davis,
Claude McClure and, Willis Ashe.
Although this year's team will
be lighter than the '40 squad, all
indications are that they will make
up for the loss in weight with
speed and fighting spirit,
The 1941 squad will be built
around seven letter men from last
year's team, and with the assis

with the boys in the role of as

to report in the next few days as

year have not reported. Two of the
boys who have not reported are:
Bobby Lee and John Summerrow.
