Jack Alexander's nine won a dou ble bill from Tryon Sunday while Enka was scoring a single victory over Balfour and went into a tie with the Rayonites for the top po sition in the Industrial League base ball Ecusta downed Tryon, 5-0 and 2-1, while Enka walloped Balfour, 20-6. In the only other loop match played Beacon whipped Canton, 12-2. The Hazelwood-Sayles game will be played today. 1 The day's results left Enka and Ecusta with 16 wins and five de feats. .'(..," lEnka had an easy time with Bal four, cracking out 18 hits while Balfour made nine errors. Don Campbell hit a record home run for Enka in the third inning when his blast to left center cleared the dyke. The bases were loaded at the time and four runs shoved Enka into a lead that was bol stered as the game . progressed. Morgan, Allen and Tweed also starred at bat for the winners, Whitaker, star Ecusta hurler, was the kingpin of his team's twin triumph. He limited Tryon to four hits in the opener and then pitched three scoreless frames in the sec ond game before turning the job over to White. In all, he fanned 14 men. Ecusta gathered 12 hits in the first tilt and seven in the nightcap, Alexander and Sams hit homers for Ecusta." Bill Home, on the mound for Beacon, gave Canton eight hits and won handily as his mates came through with a 15-hit bar rage. Beacon broke a 1-1 tie in me last oi tne sixtn by scoring two runs. A three-run rally was produced in the seventh, and then a Bix-run blast knocked Canton out of the picture in the eighth. ... All calibre Remmington and West ern Shells. lassie Hardware Hunting Season Opens Monday The hunting season opens on Monday with the squirrel season (other than fox squirrel and South em red squirrel, boomer) from September the 15, to December the 15th. The bag limit this year has been reduced to 6 per day in stead oi 10 as was formerly al lowed, according to G. C. Plott, county fish and game worden. The open season on bear begins on October the 1st and closes on January 1st, with a bag limit of two. per .day and a season limit of two. . ' ' The deer (male) season opens on October the 1st, and closes on Jan uary 1st, with a bag limit of one per day and a bag limit of three to a season. The opposum, raccoon season (with gun or dogs only) opens on October 1st, and closes on Febru ary 15th, with no bag limit set The quail season opens on No vember the 20th and closes on Jan uary 31, with a bag limit of 10 per day and 150. for the season. The open season on rabbit has been set up. to. November 20, and closes on January 31, with no bag restrictions. There will be no open season oh fox squirrel and boomer (Southern red) or turkey in Haywood county. The open season on ruffed grouse begins on November 20 and closes on January 1, with a bag limit of two per day and 10 limit for the season. There will be no open season year on Russian Boar, beaver, elk, doe deer, otter and all other protected wild birds and animals. There will be no closed season on wildcat, weasel, or skunk. Warden Plott also pointed out some of the laws governing hunt ing in Haywood and North Car olina among which were the fol lowing: it is unlawful to hunt on Sunday; while hunting upland game birds, suirrels and rabbits, it is unlawful to use an automatic-loading or hand-operated repeating shotgun which has hot been plug ged to a capacity of three shells in the magazine and chamber com Any person convicted of buying or selling or offering to buy or sell quail in violation of the North Carolina game law, shall be fined not less than $50.00 or imprison ed for not more than 60 days or both in the descretion of the court. , Any person taking; or having in possession doe deer in violation of the North Carolina laws is sub ject to a fine of not Ipsa fhnn no or imprisonment not less than 30 1 days or both such fine and impris onment in the discretion of the court. ' : ! Any person who takes or at tempts to take deer between sun set and sunrise with the aid of a spotlight or other artificial light on any highway or in any field, woodland, or forest in violation of the North Carolina game laws is subject to a fine of not less than $100.00 or imprisonment, not less than 60 days or both such fine and I imprisonment in the discretion of the court. It is unlawful to chase deer with dogs or take deer with the aid of dogs at any time West of the following counties: Person, Orange, Chatham, Moore or Richmond. Game birds and animals lawfully taken and possesed may be trans ported within the state during the open season and ten days nexj succeeding the close of such open season, v In all cases of conviction under . the North Carolina game laws the court shall require a surrender of any hunting license then held by the person so convicted. Dean Ledford and Harry West, two key letter men around who the 1941 Mountaineer squad was largely to be built, have joined the marines. ; ' ' . . , ..' This leaves Coach Weatherby with only two of last year's men to play in the first game with Bry son City high on the 18th. Although their leaving cripples the team the remaining boys are working harder than ever to make up for their loss. Coach Weath erby has been putting them through two weeks of intensive training and although some of them are a little on the light side they give every indication that they will develop into a first class team. Bill Medf ord, Jr., Suffers Injuries To Foot When Horse Falls On Him Bill Medford, Jr., suffered seri ous injuries to a foot when a horse fell on him Monday afternoon. He was taken to the Mission Hospital for treatment, where he Is stm a patient.
