A short business session was held. After the business session, open house was held. Refreshments were served by the hospitality committee. . Mrs. Umbarger Gives Party At Kindergarten Mrs. . L. Umbarger entertained in honor of the sixth birthday an idversary of her daughter, Emily, at the Waynesville Kindergarten on Tuesday noon. After the gifts were opened the children eat around the table and were served ice cream and cakes. The birthday cake was decorated in frosted Christmas trees, and the favors were candy and balls. Mrs. Umbarger was assisted in serving by Mrs. E. K. Herman, teacher. " Miss Louise iBotha is spending sometime with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Botha. Miss Frances James Weds Howard Stamey Here Saturday Mr. and Mrs. N. C James have announced the engagement and ap proaching marriage of their daugh ter, Miss Frances James, to Howard Stamey, of Bethel. The vows will be solemnized at 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon, December the 20th, at the First Baptist church here, with the pas tor, the Rev. H. G. Hammett, per forming the ceremony. , MisB James will have as her matron of honor, her sister, Mrs. Mark Ferguson. Regina Fergu son, a niece of the bride-elect, will attend as flower girl. Miss James is a member of the faculty of the Fines Creek school, A number of friends of -both the bride-elect and the groom-elect have been invited to attend the wedding. Miss Hilda Way, who is teach ing in the city schools of Kanna- polis, will arrive tomorrow to spend the Christmas vacations here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Woman's Club Has Program Of -Christmas Music ---.-. Mrs. J. Dale Stentz, chairman of music was in charge of the pro gram at the December meeting of the Woman's Club which was held on Thursday afternoon at the Hotel LeFaine, with Mrs. William Han nah, president, presiding. Mrs. Stents presented a program of Christmas music. She intro duced each number with either a poem or an appropriate quotation. The program opened with the read ing of a poem by Mrs, Stentz, en titled, "Chnsmas Eve," in which it was shown that while this Christ mas could not be joyous, it could be a grateful and happy one. Mrs. Fred Martin and Mrs. Fred Calhoun , accompanied by Mrs, Stentz, sang, "Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem." A quartet made up of trumpet players from the Way nesville high school band gave a medly of Christmas carols. Miss Jane Stentz sang "oh, Glo rious Morning," by Neidlinger; Mrs. Lawrence Green and Mrs. Henry Foy sang, "The Story of the Star; Miss Frances Allison gave a read ing, "The Littlest Orphan and the Christ Child." The group sang "Silent Night" and "0 Come all ye Faithful.". The. meeting was held in the dining room, which was arranged in quantities of Christmas greens 150 Bowler at v-7' A ;A and flighted Christmas tree, on her niece, Linda Welch. Presbyterians At Hazelwood To Have Candlelight Service A candlelight service, sponsored by the Woman's Auxiliary of the Hazelwood Presbyterian' church, will be given at the church Sunday evening. December zi o'clock. t Mrs. Rahh Summerrow, secre tary of Christian education ana ministerial relief, wUl be in charge of the program. Those having parts on the pro gram are: Miss Edna Summerrow, L. C. Davis, Mrs. J. E. Shields, and the Rev. S. R. Crockett, pastor of the church.
