Ben Sloan Did Work On Belk Hudson Store Ben Sloan had the general con tract for modernizing the Belk Hudson .Company store here. The job called for a new front, new floors, a new roof, new ceiling, a steam heating plant, and re plastering of all walls. Mr. Sloan's crew of men had to sandwich their work in during regular business hours of the store, and by rearranging the stocks, and working on a well-piannea scnea ule, the work of remodeling went on as customers and clerks car ried on business as usual, Methodist Set Dec. 6 As Brevard College Day Brevard College Day, which has become an annual event, will be ob served in all the churches of the Western North Carolina conference on Sunday, December 6. Last year Brevard College Day was observed on February 15, At tViHt imp almost S10.000 was re ceived from the various pastoral rharces in the conference, the larg. est contribution from the Main Street Methodist church in Gasto nia, which contributed $1,065. President Coltrane has traveled all over the territory embraced by the conference and reports that the necessary preparation is neing made for the observance of Bre vard College Day on a large scale this year. "The college would be unable to operate and render vital Christian service to worthy and ambitious young women without gifts for current expenses and endowment from numerous friends both with in and without the Methodist church," Dr. IColtrane continued. "It is imperative that the only college owned and operated by the Methodist church in this territory be maintained on an adequate basis.
