Hippn, widely known Canton residents, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Monday. They have both been active in the business life of Can ton since 190(5. Mr. and Mrs. Hipps were mar ried on November 30, 1892, at the lome of the latter's parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Holcombe, in Clyde township. Mrs. Hipps, now 65, continues active in the operation of the Hipps boarding house which she opened here in 1907, shortly after moving to Canton. Mr. Hipps, now 74, f amilialy known to his many friends as "Uncle Bob," started working for the Champion Paper and Fibre Company here early in 1906 when the foundation for the huge plant was being laid. After working for the company until 1918, Mr. Hipps decided to enter business for himself. He erected the building which now houses the Leader Department store on the ground floor and the Hipps' boarding house on the two upper floors. Mr. Hipps is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hipps, of the Crabtree section of Haywood coun ty. V After devoting several years to the mercantile business, Mr. Hipps transferred his business to C, Guy Hipps, who has taken a leading role in Canton's civic and business circles for many years. His son has served as a member of the Canton board of aldermen, as master of the Pigeon River Masonic lodge No. 386, of Canton, and is a member of Canton's wartime rationing board. Mr. and Mrs. Hipps were honor ed on Sunday at dinner at the home of their only daughter, Mrs. Bruce Nanny, on Newfound street in Can ton. The guests included the fol lowing, in addition to the members of the Nanny family: Mr. and Mrs. C. Guy Hipps, and their only son, Guy, Jr., Willis Holcombe, a grand son, now in active charge of the Leader Department store, taking the place of his father, C. Guy Hipps, who is ill, Mrs. T. W. Un derwood, a sister of Mrs. Hipps, and her daughter, Miss Thomasine Underwood, both of Ashevile, and Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Hipps, of Canton. November Honor Roll Of Jake Junaluska The honor roll for the month of November in the Lake Juna luska school has been announced as follows: Second grade: Richard Hipps, Dot Liner, Mildred Green, Mary Ruby McDaniel, Bobby Fullbright, and Billy Ann McDaniel Third grade: Ellis Grillette, Mary Ann Liner, Elise Palmer, Ernest Roberta and Billy Under wood, Fourth grade : J ames Fugate, Eugene Woody, Lillian Knox Med ford, Betty Noland, Lavada Kig gins, and Betty McDaniels. Fifth grade: Roy Phillips, Ed ward Palmer. Sixth grade: Howard Liner, Children Of St. John's School To Receive Milk Creating new outlets fnr the in creased production of milk by the farmers of Haywood county is the chief purpose of the new school mihe program which started oper ating in oie school in the county, St. John's Parochial School, on December 1. Approximately 63 children are enrolled in this school. Every child in the participating school will be elegible to receive milk each day at a cost of lc a half pint under the program. Money realized from this small charge will be used to help pay for pro cessing, bottling and delivering the milk. School officials and Sister Aquinas sponsoring the program locally will be responsible for contracting with producers and haulers and will serve the milk.
