Saturday to visit her grandmother,
Mrs. John N. Shoolbred. She plans
to remain here a week. Mies Wood

lege, Danville, Va. She is the head
of the speech departmnt at Averett.
Misses Ann and Nancy Bischoff
are spending this week in Whittier
with their grandparents. Mr. and
Mrs. S. A. Ashe. "
Chester Davis, who .s employed
in Newport News, Va., is spending
a few days here this week with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Davis.
Mr. and Mrs. George Bischoff are
spending this week in Norfolk,
Virginia.
Miss Pearl Lehnhard and Miss
Inez Gregg, of Kentucky, have ar
rived for the summer season. Miss
Gregg will manage ths Goose Creek
Crafts shop here.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. DuBruiel
left this week for their home at
119 Park street, Brookline, Mass.
Mrs. DuBruiel is the former Mrs.
Ruth Knight Graves, of Waynes
ville. Following their marriage
last month, Mr. and Mrs. Du
Bruiel spent sometime here at the
Waynesville Country Club.

Mrs. Carroll Bell, who has been
visiting friends and relatives in
Jacksonville and Luve Oak, Fla., is
expected to return home this week.
Miss Lois Massie, who is at
tending the University of Tennes
see, has arrived for a vacation
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Guy Massie.
Mrs. Bertha Smith, of Winston
Salem, returned home Sunday
after spending two weeks visiting
her sister, Mrs. Lily Hopkins, at
her home on Waynesville, route 2.
Mrs. Smith was before her marri
age Miss Bertha Mitchell of Hay
wood county. This was her first
visit to Waynesville in thirty
years.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Medford
and daughter, Miss Mary Medford
will leave Sunday for Greensboro,
where they will attend the gradu
ation at Woman's College of the
University of North Carolina.
Miss Anna Medford, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Medford, is a mem
ber of the graduating; class. Miss
Medford will accompany her par
ents back home f : a week's vaca
tion, after which sin- goes to Bal
timore where she has accepted a
position as drafts woman in the
Glenn L. Martin Aircraft plant.
Mrs. Robert Rhinehardt and
son, Roy, spent the week-end in
High Point with the former's sis
ter, Mrs. George McClure.
Mrs. Greek Waddell, of Ashe
Viiie. was the guest over the week
r.,l of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Waddell.
Mrs. Lillie Walls Swann, of
Asheville, spent the week-end with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George
Walls.
Lfirry Williams has returned
home after graduating from Wake
Forest College. He is awaiting his
call in service.
Mrs. George Allen has returned
to her home in Detroit, after visit
ing her brothers, T. L. Bramlett and
L. H. Bramlett. Mrs. Allen was
called to this section on account of
the death of her sister, Mrs. Andy
McClure, of Canton.
Mrs. Troy Wyche and daughter,
Jane Wyche, have returned after
a visit to relatives and friends in
Greensboro and Reidsville.
Miss Polly Francis, who has been
attending Virginia Intermont Col
lege has returned home for the
summer vacations.
Miss Lillian Messer spent from
Friday until Tuesday in Hazel
wood with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jess Messer. For the past
'ive months she has been working
with the Wartime Commission in

Miss Winifred Rodgers, who is'
attending Berea College, has ar
rived for a brief vacation with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert
Reeves. She will return to Berea
for the summer session.
Phil Medford, who is attending
Pavidson College, is spending a
brief vacation here with his par
ents, Dr. and Mrs. N. M. Medford.
Zeb Curtis, Jr., who is a student
at Berea College, is spending his
vacation here with his parents,
prior to entering the service.
Miss Dorothy Richeson and Miss
Kathryn Blalock arrived Tuesday
from Peace College, from where
they graduated Monday morning.
Attending the graduation exer
cises from here were: Mr. and Mrs.
John Blalock, Mrs. L. M. Richeson
and sons, Billy and Jack, and Charl
es Isley.
Mrs. Rufus L. Allen and Mrs
Royal M. Inman, of Lynchburg,
Va., will spend the summer at "The
Manor" on Walnut Street. Mrs.
Allen will leave in the fall for
Washington, D. C, where she will
join the writer, Mrs. A. C. Avery.
Mrs. Allen plans to enter George
Washington University where she
will study law during the fall and
winter.
