LIKE A SPREADING PESTILENCE, the Jap hordes have over-run thousands of square miles In the south
western Pacific, and have thrust rapacious claws into the islands of the Aleutians. With every new tale
of atrocity, Americans swear that the day of reckoning will come. The map above depicts the area that
must be retaken by Allied air, navy and sea forces when the tide turns in our favor. (Intcrnaiioiial)
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
"Bomb-Proof Shelters for Ameri
ca,"' is the pastor's sermon subject
for Sunday morning worship at
11:00 0 clock. At the evening wor
ship at 8 o'clock the subject of the
sermon is, "Walking With God In
Trying Times."
The Bible School at 0:45 a. m.,
and the Training Union at 7:00
o'clock, afford opportunity for
every individual to grow toward
God's ideal for man. As somebody
recently said, "The World at its
worst needs to rind the Christian
at his best."
WAYNESV11.1.K METHODIST
J. C. Madison, Pastor
Church School under the direc
tion of M. H- Howies opens at 10
o'clock.
At the morning hour the subject
of the pastor's message will be,
"When Faith Is Dead." In the
Young People's service at 8:00
o'clock the Methodist program of
summer assemblies and conferenc
es will be presented, and the work
of the coming Youth Caravan will
be outlined.
The Young People's recreation
hour is from 7:00 to 8:00.
tor" will be the subject of the
lesson-sermon next Sunday. The
Golden Text will be taken from
Eeclesiastes 3:14, "Whatsoever
God doeth, it shall be forever;
nothing can be put to it, nor any
thing taken from it."
Among the citations which com
prise the lesson-sermon will be the
following from the Bible: "Thus
saith God the Lord, he that creat
ed the heavens, and stretched them
out; he that spread forth the earth
and that which cometh out of it;
he that giveih breath unto the
people upon it, and spirit to them
that walk therein; I am the Lord;
that is my name; and my glory
will 1 not give to another. Neither
my praise to graven imago."
(Isaiah 4J:o, 8).

sume 818,000 pounds of fruits' that
are measured by the pound, such
as grapes, cherries, bananas or
cooking apples. In addition, 183.
500 dozen of the fruits ordinarily
counted by the dozen, such as or
anges, lemons, grapefruit m- fancy
eating apples, were served.
Apples lead the way with 22
servings for the month. Figures
show that in the 30-day period,
the 50,000-man cam) would con
sume 35,000 dozen fancy eating ap
ples, plus 135,000 pounds of cook
ing apples served as sauce, stewed
or baked. Men on the post would
eat 00,500 dozen oranges and would
use 42,000 dozen lemons.
And these figures are based on
just one camp. Multiply that by j
the number of southeastern camps
which number the Axis would like .
to know and you get some idea of
the vast quantity of fresh fruits
from orchards in Dixie that are
purchased for the army in the
fourth service command. i
The honor system of saving gas
oline is all right except for the
lack of system and lack of honor.
Loans Available
For Purchase Of
Dairy Cattle
The R e gin n a I Agricultural
Credit Corpoi at ion is now making
loans to farmers to purchase dairy
cattle, including heifers and calves.
Tht'M' loans aio made to farmers
for the purchase of cows that have
been acquired by the Commodity
Credit Corporation which county
supervisors of tile Farm Security
Administration are acting as
agents for.
This program is designed to
prevent the loss of such cattle as
productive units through slaughter
and to insure their utilization in
the production of milk and milk
products that are necessary for
both civilian and military needs.
Glenn A. Boyd, chairman of the
county USDA War Board, stated
that any one interested in this
proposition should either contact
him or J. Yates Bailey, loan rep
resentative of the Regional Agri
cultural Credit Corporation.
