Lt. Ward Manley Has
Been Assigned Active
Duty With The Marines
Second Lieut. Ward Mauley Wil
cox, 2H, son of Mrs. Adelaide S.
Wilcox, of Lake Junaluska, has
been assigned to active duty with
the fighting Leathernecks, it was
announced recently. He was or
dered to lead Marines in battle
after successfully completing the
jugged officers' training course at
the famous Marine Base at Quan
tico, Va.
Lieut. Wilcox attended Duke
University, Durham. His wife, the
former Alice Catherine McQueen,
lives with their daughter, Cathe
rine, in Fayetteville.
Grand Ole Opry To
Stage Show Monday
A group from the WSM Grand
Ole Opry will appear in person
Monday, September ti, in a tent
theatre next to the City Hall in
Hazelwood.
Included in the entertainers
will be Hill Monroe and his Blue
Grass Boys, featured stars of the
program, Sam and Kirk McGee,
"The Boys From Tennessee,"
Robert Limn and his yodcling fid
dle and comic acts.
While the tent has a large seat

Small Firms May
Give 'Merit' Raises
Small business firms have been
granted the right to give annual
individual "merit" raises up to 10
cents an hour without war labor

The board has revised its wage
and salary regulations to permit
