W. Howell at 2 o'clock Friday, the 3rd; the Beaverdam Club with Mrs. Sherrill Jamison, at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, the 7th. The Allen's Creek Club with Mrs. Hiram McC racken at & o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, the 8th; the Fines Creek Club with Mrs- D. J. Noland, at 10:30 o'clock Thursday mornin, the 9th; the Iron Duff Club with Mrs. J. R. Caldwell at 2 o'clock on Friday afternoon, the 10th. The Morning Star Club with Mrs. Robert Worlley at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon, the 13th; the Maple Grove Club with Mrs. Sam Queen at 6:30 o'clock Tues day evening, the 14th ; the Francis Cove Club will meet at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the 15th, with the place of meeting to be announced later. Mrs. James S. Queen, who is residing with her parents in Ral eigh while her husband, Lt. Queen, is serving in the Navy, arrived on Friday to spend several days here with her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Queen. Mrs. B. R. Hundley and two children, June and Teddy, spent the week-end in Asheville with friends. Walter Crawford, local attorney, who is now located in Raleigh where he is connected with the legal department of the State Bur ial Association, arrived on Friday to visit his family here. Miss Katheryn Queen, who holds a position with the U. S. Employ ment Service in Raleigh, has arriv ed to spend a week with her par ents. She has as her guests, Miss Reba Manning and Miss Francis Manning, both of Raleigh. Mrs. Nina Howell Darck, of New York City, has returned to her home after spending two months here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Howell. Mrs. Frank Powell and daughter, Doris, of Morganton, spent the week-end at the home of J. N. Knight. ed at the Moore General Hospital in Swannanoa, and has been in the service since January of this year. Before entering the service he was employed by the Dayton Rubber Company, at their plant here. Former Resident Of Hazelwood Gives Party For Small Daughter Mrs. Fred Calhoun, of Wilming ton, who formerly resided in Haz elwood, was hostess of a party in honor of the third birthday anni versary of her young daughter, Freddie, last Wednesday in Wil mington. The guests assembled at the Cal houn residence and from there were taken in a group to the Greenfield park, where they were served cakes and pink lemonade. Games and swimming were the features of en tertainment. Mrs. Mar,y Moody Mebane, of Washington, D. C, who holds a position with the War Production board has returned after spending a week here with her sister, Mrs. Hugh Jolly. Lt. and Mrs. Fred Howell, and children of Providence, R. I., who have been visiting the former's parents, have returned home. Mrs. Howell and children plan to join Lt. Howell in Bainbridge, Md., where he is now stationed. Miss Jeannette Burgin and sister, Miss Norma Jane Burgin, have re turned from a two week's visit with friends in Daytona Beach. Mrs. Homer Justice has returned from Wilmington, where she visited her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Justice. Mr. Jus tice is employed at the North Caro lina Shipyards. MRS. Wright, formerly of Way nesville, who is stationed at Pine Camp, and was also the guest of friends in Canada. I., arrived on Satur day to spend two weeks here with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Howell. Master Fred Hutton, Jr., and his sister, Mary Lou Hutton. children of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hutton, of Greensboro, have returned home after a visit with their grandpar ents. Mr. and Mrs. Noble Garrett. Mrs. John Lilly arrived Tuesday from Winston-Salem where she has been for some time. Follow labal Dlfactloaa Methodist Young People Will Give Banquet Tonight The Youth Council of the First Methodist church is entertaining tonight at 6:00 o'clock with a ban quet in the dining room of the church honoring the young people i-.-ho are members of the Metho dist Youth Fellowship who are leaving soon for the first time to go to college and to enter the arm d forces. An interesting program of en tertainment will feature the eve ning.
