E. Caldwell, county fire war den. Mr. Caldwell stated that he hoped he would have the fine cooperation this fall that he had had from the public last spring in reducing the fire hazards of Haywood county. Morton, pastor of the Rock wood Methodist church, located in the same community. The attractive new church is of brick veneer with stone and ce ment foundation. It has a seating capacity of 350, with adequate class rooms in the basement. The clear toned bell, used in the two frame buildings previously erected on the 'church site, is being used. The Oak Grove church is the first and only Baptist church in the community. It was organized September 2, 1899 in the old Cabe Chapel school house wfiere the people met for Sunday school and worship services. Near the present church site, stood the first building, construct ed of lomber brought from the woodland of the "Bear Wallow" gap. The people met for services in this church for about 25 years, until a windstorm struck and turn ed the building from its pillars and blew the bell from the belfry. A second frame building was soon erected, which was used until the present building was started 1939.
