Boone Honored With Luncheon On Her 85th Birthday Mrs. Huph Massie was hostess of a luncheon on Saturday in com pliment to her mother, Mrs. John K. Boone, on the occasion of her eighty-fifth birth lay anniversary. Mrs. Boone, who is beloved by a large circle of friends, has resided in Waynesville for the past sixty five years. She is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. William Kerr, member of the Holston Conference and a former pastor of the First Metho di.'t church here. She and her family have been active in the af fairs of the community for many years. She was the recipient of many lovely gifts and messages on her eighty-fifth anniversary. The guest list was confined to a small group of intimate friends. Navy at Atlanta and from there was s.nt to Williamsburg, where he took both his boot and advanced training at Camp Peary. Prior to entering the service he was a radio operator at Fort Mc-Pherson. Pfc. Robt. Cope, Jr., Here On 15-Day Leave Private First Class Robert Cope, Jr., U. S. Army, is spending a 15 day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cope and his wife, Mrs. Cope and small daughter. Pfc. Cope who has b:en in the service over two years, is "w stationed at Camp Atterbury, Ind. Miss Withers Gives Book Review To Woman's Club Miss Hester Ann Withers was in charge of the program at the November meeting of the Waynes ville Woman's Club which vas held n Thursday afternoon at the Hotel LeFaine, with Mrs. James W. Killian, president, presiding. Miss Withers reviewed "Western Star", narrative of America in noetry by the late Stephen Vincent Benot. Miss Withers also told of the life of the author and his place in literature. Mrs. Cornelia Nixon, chairman of music, presented Mrs. Fred Mar tin, who gave a vocal selection, ac companied by her mother, Mrs. W. L. Matney. During the business session lans were made for the annual community Christmas tree, which will be staged this year on Christ mas Eve afternoon on the court house grounds, with Mrs. J. C. Brown serving as chairman. Plans were also made to entertain the local troop of Girl Scouts, which is sponsored bv the organization. Leslie Mcody, Jr. Returns To Bainbridge Leslie Moody, Jr., seaman second class, has returned to his post at Bainbridge, Md., after sp nding a seven-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Moody of Way nesville. Seaman Moody has completed his boot training and will shortly be assigned to another post. He was irduct:d at Carrp Croft and sent from there to Bainbridge. It was decided to give a cash prize to the art department of the township high school. Members were urged to work in the Red Cross surgical dressings rooms. Plans were discussed regarding a planting of shrubs and flowers at the county home. During the sociaj hour the fol lowing served as hostesses: Mrs. Rufus H. Blackwell, Mrs. Cornelia Nixon, and Mrs. E. A. William son. A number of specially invit ed guests were present for the meeting.
