Bushnell Will Be Hostess Of May DAR Meeting On Friday The May meeting of the Dorcas Bell Love Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 in the Sunday school room of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. S. H. Bushnell, regent, will preside. Mrs. T. Lenoir Gwyn will have charge of the program which will be a memorial to the Haywood county casualties of World War II. VISITS FAMILY HERE Technical Sergeant Paul Allen Smith (Jack), son of Mr. and Mrs Dick Smith, of Hazelwood, has re turned to Camp Pickett, Va., after spending a 9-day leave here with his parents. He has been in service since August, 1942. He was inducted at then went to Camn Jackson, from there to Fort McClellan, Ala., then to Lamp tJutner and from there to Lamp fickett, his present post. Before entering service he was employed at Unagusta Manuafc- turing plant. Fred Troutman. S 2c. who re cently completed his boot training at Camp Peary, Va., is spending a short leave in Hazelwood with his wife and two children and other relatives. Prior to entering the service he was employed at Mc- Ainaneys store in Hazelwood. Emmett Eller, S 2c. has com pleted his boot training at Great Lakes, 111., is spending a leave in Hazelwood with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eller, and other relatives. Upon returning to his post he will be sent to one of the Navy's trade schools. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Winchester and children and Mrs. W. A. Whitner spent last Sunday in An drews with Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Stump and daughter, Gladys. Miss Evelyn Moody spent a few days last week in Washington, D. C, as the guest of Miss Dorothy Moody, who holds a position there. En route home she' spent the week end in Newton with Mr. and Mrs. Homer Scruggs and Mrs. Rufus Carswell. To Preside Over St. John's Prom ftptl-Cola Company, Long hland City, N. Y. Pepsi-Cola Bottling" Company of Ashevffle The second annual formal senior prom of St. John's high school, with orchestra music by members of the Waynesville high school band under the direction of Charles Isley, will be held in St. John's audi torium on May 25, from 9 p. m. till midnight. Presiding over the dance will be Prom King Bill Ray and Prom Queen Doris Anne Greer, elected by their classmates at a student assembly on April 20. Parents of the high school students will be guest patrons. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Claude M. Allison, Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Greer, Mrs. William T. Hannah, Mrs. Walter Kenney, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Martel, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. Ray, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Spaldon Underwood, Mr. and Mrs. John Wasilik, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Smathers, Jr. Admission to the prom is restricted to students of St. John's high school and their escorts. Formal dress will be worn by the ladies; the men will be free to wear either formal or informal attire. Presbyterian Women's Auxiliary Observe Birthday Anniversary The Woman's Auxiliary of the Prpshvtcrian church will observe their annual birthday party in the Sunday school rooms of the church on next Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Music Club Will Hold May Meeting Saturday In Presbyterian Church The Waynesville Music Club will hold their May meeting on Satur day afternoon in the Sunday school room of the Presbyterian church with Mrs. Earl Messer as hostess. Mrs. Janie Love Taliaferro will have charge of the program and Miss Stepanie Moore, president, will preside. Mrs. Fred Kizziah is spending this week in Burlington and Dur ham. Miss Melba Waddell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Waddell, of Hazelwood, has entered Mars Hill College for the summer. Miss Ann Bischoff is spending this week in Whittier with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Ashe. Mrs. Edd Ray and young daugh ter, Mary Jane, spent the past week in Atlanta visiting the for mer's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Lampley. In returning home she stopped for a few days visit in Clayton. Miss Mary and Miss Emily Gar rett, of Reidsville, have arrived to visit their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus H. Blackwell. Mrs. Bertha Goodman and Mrs. Norman, of St. Petersburg, have arrived to open Wayside Lodge for the summer. Mrs. Robert A. Comegys, of St. Petersburg, Fla., is spending sev eral days here. Mrs. Comegys is the former Miss Grace Crocker, who taught music here for several years. Mrs. James A. Dicus, of New Orleans, who has been visiting her husband in Haughton, Mich., has arrived to visit her husband's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Dicus. Aviation Cadet Dicus has been transferred from the University of Michigan to Baker Field, Califor- Mrs. Dewey Hyatt has returned from New York, where she visited her son, Sgt. J. D. Hyatt. Mrs. Will Ratcliffe and small son, Dale, have returned home after spending a week in Newport News, Va., with relatives. Mrs. Lillie Walls Swann, of Asheville, spent last week-end in Hazelwood with relatives. Joe Davis, who holds a position in Wilmington, spent last week in Hazelwood with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon Davis. William Lucius Allen, S 2c, has completed his boot training at Camp Peary, Va., and -is spending a 12-day leave here with his wife and young daughter and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. K. Allen. Prior to entering the "service he was employed by the A. C. Lawrence Company. Miss Lura Mae Greene Elon College Graduate Teaching At Clyde Miss Lura Mae Greene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram C. Greene, Clyde, was one of the thirty-six seniors who received diplomas in the commencement exercises held May 20-22 at Elon College. While a student at Elon, Miss Greene was vice-president of the Panvio Literary Society and ma jored in English and history. Miss Greene is now teaching school at Clyde.
